The BTV airport is closed and I hear no radio traffic involving the VTANG squadron of F-16s which is unusual...they are up almost every day.
I just called the local FBI to offer whatever services I could provide. They suggested giving blood to the local Red Cross. (Can't.....had hepatitis).
Those who can give blood might want to consider that...there are going to be tens of thousands of injured.

Here in Columbia, South Carolina, things are actually very normal-looking (emphasis on "-looking", this is a very pro-military town and the entire place is shaken to the foundations). Federal and state offices were closed. Fort Jackson is locked down hard. I assume that the other local military facilities (McEntire Air National Guard base, and Shaw AFB in nearby Sumter) are the same. It'll be interesting to hear what happens with the 20th FW over at Shaw; three or four F-16 squadrons, I think one is on overseas deployment right now.

Adding to your list, McCain Mall at North Little Rock and other major malls are closed. I think the talking points are "out of respect for NYC"...but heard from my friend in Orlando, and she said their Mall is closed using the same lingo.
No, things aren't calming down, we are, unfortuately, all in a state of disbelief and shock.

In the OTHER WASHINGTON we are operating per usual with schools and banks, etc. However, most retailers are shutting down due to no activity. Not many people on the road. The Governor has told most federal bldgs. to remain open.
Ferries are only transporting foot traffic - no cars. Amtrak has cancelled travel. Larger downtown Seattle bldgs. closed or on high aleart. All bridges, tunnels, and dams being observed. Many Catholic masses being planned or in session now. Protestant churches open - people coming to pray.

NE Ohio: Military helicopters and one c-130 wide flight path around Perry Nuke plant, some times close as a mile at other times as far away as 15 or more miles (I am 20+miles away and can see it clearly from the upstairs of my home).
National Guard C-130's departed from their station near Warren Ohio about 10 or 10:30 ET this AM. Haven't seen them since.
I'm in the sticks but have a decent view of a good portion of the countryside/skies.

West Texas OIL up $6.
My first post today,
IMHO, we need to some one hard in the next 12 hours, THIS IS WAR and they hit civilians first.
We hit terrorist centers now and if we hit the wrong ones, we worry and wring our hands later.

I live in Tallahassee, FL. Just heard that "they" are checking all water towers for devices, chemicals, etc. One was next door to my parents house. SWAT was out because they found an "unidentified object". They exploded it, and it was obviously nothing, becasue my Mom had called me at work and told me this.

Minneapolis/St. Paul are pretty quiet. Airport is shut down, Mall of America closing/closed, and several of the taller buildings are closed in the two downtowns. Ventura is chattering from time to time, but that is normal.

Woodland Hills, California (Los Angeles suburb)
Streets eerily lacking in traffic. About half the restaurants closed, business down significantly in those remaining open. Major shopping malls closed. A lot of talk about the incident.
I wonder if all this activity is just a shade overdone. I can see the terrorists attacking, say, the Mall of America, but not the Westfield Shopping Town in Woodland Hills; there's just no symbolism there.

Fresno California, airport closed and streets around it as well, the shopping malls are even closed, as well as government offices. The one eerie thing I have noticed is the quietness. The silence around my neighborhood is very strange indeed.

In Kansas City, the Federal Building downtown was closed and access/traffic all around the building was restricted. A news conference was held and rumors of a smallpox release were denied. Also seciury was tightened around the water supply stations. Two of the largest malls in the area were closed down. There were stories of people being stranded at KCI, the major airport here and people were warned to stay away from it. I just heard from my sister who lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan that the bridge into Canada from Sault Saint Marie has been closed and she has heard that the big bridge from the lower part of Michigan has also been closed.

Downtown Orlando, FL
Pretty quiet. Courthouse and federal buildings shut down. Not many people out on the street. I think a lot of people went home. Disney parks are closed. No one allowed in, even back areas. My father works there and says they are searching vehicles leaving from "backstage" areas. I've heard lots of blood donations are going on too.
