Did you ever get up to my favorite place, Mang Buk (?spelling?). The place was like a miniature switzerland without the snow. Surrounded by peeks, which trapped the clouds in from time to time. Never were more than four Americans (SF)there, except when helicopter crews remained over night, always intentionally for a little r&r. If you 're clouded in, you're clouded in. Though once we risked it going blind up through the clouds to get back.
I'm one of the privileged, who have mostly all good memories. And the best of those memories are from kontum province.
Yup,that was it. Our FOB was between Mary Lou and Kontum City.
>>I have no idea. I do not remember ever hearing it mentioned until I was back over ten years.<<
Mary Lou was the primary reason the NVA set ambushes along the road between Kontum and Pleiku. Every once in a while they would get lucky and hit a ammo truck with a mortar round. Seems like every time I got hung-up with a 4th Division convoy going from Pleiku to Kontum,I got fired on. I've made the trip on the back of a 90cc Honda, riding in the mess hall jeep,or riding with Miller and his recon team in the camp duece and a half with no problems at all,but knew I would get fired on if we got mixed-up with that convoy.

I never even heard of it. What kind of camp was it? Sounds like it might have been one of the ASA listening posts.
