Two foreign nationals have been detained for the burning of Star Link antennas at a secret facility near Sofia, Bulgaria in what authorities are investigating as a terrorist attack, Faktor.bg reported, citing Prosecutor’s Office sources.
The two men were arrested on Monday on suspicion of intentionally setting fire to antennas supporting Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite communications system. They hold German passports but are not ethnic Germans, and entered Bulgaria legally through the Kulata border checkpoint.Find Embassies
The incident occurred overnight between October 9 and 10, when masked individuals set fire to 11 antennas, destroying them completely. Security cameras recorded the suspects. Only seven of the facility’s 18 high-frequency antennas remained intact after the blaze.
The site is located near the village of Plana, outside Sofia, and supports the SpaceX communications system. The Interior Ministry and security services initially did not disclose the incident. The attack was made public by Ivaylo Mirchev, leader of the "Yes, Bulgaria" party.
The arrests in Bulgaria come as Germany detained two Turkish citizens suspected of setting fire to a Starlink ground station in Poland. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the arrests, saying the suspects would be brought before Polish justice

Was ist los, mein Herren?
Or should I say, ما هذا، أيها السادة؟
....could be the EU anti war crowd has had enough with their war on Russia?
The world’s new Cracker Jack passport
That is more information than we usually get from the international press.
That’s a pretty terrorism plot. You can replace the antennas with off the shelf starlink equipment in 10 minutes. The joke is on these jokers.
SOMEHOW, I THINK THEY HAVE MADE A VERY SERIOUS MISTAKE==
NEVER,NEVER PISS OFF ELON MUSK.
YOUR ELECTRONIC MESSAGING & OTHER COMMUNICATION MAY REVERT TO PENCIL & PAPER...........AND FLYING PIGEONS. FORGET INTERNET
AND MUSK CAN FIND YOU-—WHERE EVER YOU TRY TO HIDE.
MUSK WILL PROSECUTE-—COUNT ON IT.
You mean without US don’t you! And that minime Dicktator should show US HUGE Respect that personally I don’t believe the uber corrupt ukeraine deserves!
Nope - “While the home customer terminals are mass-produced on an assembly line by the millions, the specialized tracking infrastructure destroyed at the Bulgarian gateway consists of highly proprietary, industrial-grade telecom equipment.”
“The technical hurdles preventing quick, off-the-shelf replacement come down to three distinct challenges:
Proprietary and Custom Aerospace Engineering
• Custom Phased Array Transceivers: The ground gateways do not use standard commercial satellite dishes. They operate on highly regulated, specialized Ka-band (27–40 GHz) and E-band (70–80 GHz) frequencies. The Silicon-Germanium (SiGe) beamforming chips inside them are custom-designed by SpaceX specifically to sync with their orbital satellites.
• Industrial Tracking Tech: Unlike a home dish that stays stationary, gateway terminals utilize high-speed, motorized tracking dishes housed inside weather-proof, spherical “radomes” (the large white domes) to mechanically and electronically track satellites moving at 27,000 km/h. You cannot buy these on the open market.
Supply Chain and Logistics Bottlenecks
• No Third-Party Ecosystem: You cannot buy a replacement gateway antenna from a telecom catalog. Replacement requires SpaceX to dispatch specialized engineering teams and ship custom military/aerospace-grade arrays directly from their facilities in the United States.
• Regulatory Recalibration: Simply bolting a new dish to the ground isn’t enough. Because gateway stations handle massive chunks of regional internet traffic over ultra-high frequencies, new antennas must be painstakingly calibrated and cleared by local telecommunications regulators (like the CRC in Bulgaria) to ensure they do not cause cross-frequency interference.
The Fiber Infrastructure Handoff
• The “Rest of the Station” is Complex: Replacing the hardware also means rebuilding the ground infrastructure it sat on. Each of those antennas hooks into high-capacity, multi-100Gbps fiber-optic backhaul links buried beneath the site. Arson damage frequently melts the highly sensitive fiber junctions and complex power routing modules underlying the concrete pads.
SpaceX does maintain spare parts inventory globally to fix gateway outages quickly, but repairing a targeted multi-antenna attack requires weeks of specialized reconstruction, rather than a quick hardware swap.”
