The Ilhan Raid

Not a surprise. There are many questions about Ilhan Omar, about her father’s application for asylum, about her brother whom she may have married to get him into the U.S., about her husband Tim Mynett’s financial dealings, about her sudden rise from a negative net worth in 2018 to as much as $30 million in 2024, followed by a sudden decline in that same net worth in 2026, according to Omar, to “a few thousand.” All that is passing strange, and surely enough to justify a search warrant enabling the Department of Homeland Security investigators to arrive at her house at 6 a.m. and proceed to search for, and take away, evidence. More on the raid can be found here: “Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home searched by federal agents in criminal probe,” by Kelly O’Donnell, Gabe Gutierrez and Megan Brand, NBC News, October 12, 2026:

Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home in Washington, D.C., on Monday morning, according to two people familiar with the investigation.

One of the people familiar with the probe said the search is part of a yearslong criminal investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. attorney in Minneapolis and the Justice Department. The probe, which involves whistleblowers, documents and witness testimony, deals partly with immigration and fraud, but it goes beyond those things, the source said.

A Justice Department spokesperson said in a statement that Homeland Security Investigations “executed a judicially authorized search warrant” as “part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.”

The statement did not specify that the warrant was related to Omar, D-Minn., or provide further information about the nature of the investigation. ...

In a post on X, Omar called the search “an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” adding that over the last decade, President Donald Trump “has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”

Trump has frequently lashed out at Omar, who is a member of a progressive faction of women in Congress collectively known as the “squad,” criticizing her over her liberal positions and saying she should “go back” to where she came from.

Asked about the search Monday, Trump told reporters he had “nothing to do with it,” adding that investigators were “looking at her very carefully.”

“I’ve always found her to be totally crooked, personally, but that has nothing to do with me,” Trump said. “I think she’s a terrible person, but that’s really up to the DOJ.”

House Democratic leaders said in a joint statement that the search was “deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries.”

Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, Minority Whip Katherine Clark of Massachusetts and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar of California vowed in the statement to “deliver full accountability for the rogue abuse of power from the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice.”…

Shouldn’t the House Democratic leaders have held back from commenting on the search until they find out what evidence of immigration fraud by Omar or other members of her family the DHS investigators now possess, that prompted the raid, or what further evidence they may now discover after the raid? Why rush to call this raid a “rogue abuse of power” when you have no idea what evidence prompted it in the first place?

In 2018, Ilhan Omar held a post-election victory party at The Safari, a Somali restaurant that Salim Ahmed Said had co-owned. Said was one of the many Somalis who was later convicted of welfare fraud. He had millions distributed to him as a participant in the fake nonprofit Feeding Our Future, that in the end cost the government $250 million. Said‘s Safari Restaurant was given millions to provide meals to schoolchildren.

Instead of feeding children, Mr. Said used the funds to buy a $2 million Minneapolis mansion and a $9,000-per-month shopping spree at Nordstrom, according to federal prosecutors. Ilhan Omar appeared in a video promoting the nonprofit. There have also been many stories about Ilhan Omar’s unusual immigration claims. The most widely known concerns her brother, whom she is accused of having married so that he could gain entry to the United States. Other stories are about her own application for such entry, filled out by her father when she was eight years old, and that appears to be the focus of the current investigation.

Apparently the DHS investigators had enough evidence to obtain a search warrant.

I am looking forward — aren’t you? — to this woman finally meeting her comeuppance.

He had millions distributed to him as a participant in the fake nonprofit Feeding Our Future, that in the end cost the government $250 million.

NONE of the politicians in charge during this time have faced any sort of punishment or disgrace. They should!

In 1995, Ilhan entered the United States as a fraudulent member of the “Omar” family.

That is not her family. The Omar family is a second, unrelated family which was being granted asylum by the United States. The Omars allowed Ilhan, her genetic sister Sahra, and her genetic father Nur Said to use false names to apply for asylum as members of the Omar family.

Ilhan’s genetic family split up at this time. The above three received asylum in the United States, while Ilhan’s three other siblings — using their real names — managed to get asylum in the United Kingdom.

Ilhan Abdullahi Omar’s name, before applying for asylum, was Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.

Her father’s name before applying for asylum was Nur Said Elmi Mohamed. Her sister Sahra Noor’s name before applying for asylum was Sahra Nur Said Elmi. Her three siblings who were granted asylum by the United Kingdom are Leila Nur Said Elmi, Mohamed Nur Said Elmi, and Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.

Ilhan and Ahmed married in 2009, presumably to benefit in some way from a fraudulent marriage. They did not divorce until 2017.

Pursuant to Committee Rule 7, the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Committee on Ethics (Committee) determined to release the following statement:

On December 22, 2021, the Committee received a referral from the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) regarding allegations that Representative Ilhan Omar may have omitted required information from her annual financial disclosure reports and may have received an advance payment on royalties relating to her memoir. In its referral, OCE unanimously recommended that the Committee dismiss the matter.

A majority of the Committee did not vote to dismiss the matter. Pursuant to House Rule XI, clause 3(b)(8)(E) and Committee Rule 17A(g), the Committee hereby publishes OCE’s Report relating to allegations against Representative Omar. OCE did not transmit findings to the Committee in this matter, so no findings are published.

House Rule XI, clause 3 and Committee Rule 17A provide for no specific further action. The Committee will not further review the matter.
