Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is rushing to Jimmy Kimmel’s rescue as the unlikely allies fight President Donald Trump’s efforts to protect taxpayer-owned airwaves from inundation by leftwing propaganda and hate speech.
The Senate Commerce Committee, chaired by Cruz, marked up the JAWBONE Act on Wednesday morning. It now awaits action before the Senate.
The bill might be more about Cruz, who has a record cozying up to establishment media, earning chits ahead of an expected anti-Trumpism presidential run.

And there is teddy cruz, sucking up the crazed left-wing nuts for his ambitious '28 presidential run.
Very cool. I remember a time when conserved news were in favor of deregulation of broadcast. They were also in favor of the first amendment. Seems many no longer are.

There are always a handful of Republican lawmakers who side with the Democrats on any given issue (tariffs, immigration, nominations, etc.). It must be Ted Cruz’s turn in the rotation.
The only way path to victory is to run to the right of Trump.
Since I’ve been alive, there have a continuous stream of RINOs who claim they running in the so-called center, whose campaign managers tell us they will motivate Democrats, or disaffected independents to vote for them.
and it never, ever works.
And they end up promoting the leftist/statist deep-state, splitting the vote, and/or keeping voters away.
And maybe that’s their secret goal.
Not surprised, both Kimmel and Cruz suffer from TDS.
Some conservatives say he belongs on the Supreme Court. Sure, Goldman Sachs could use a pawn on the SCOTUS.
Run for president? He almost lost his senate seat to that idiot Beto.
I remember when Ted Cruz, touted a strict constitutionalist, blamed Trump for riots in Chicago during the 2016 campaign.
Note to Ted Cruz:
You will never be President.
This move will gain nothing for Ted. The left will hate him as much as ever and it just sows even more distrust for him than we already have.
Well, we all learned exactly who Ted Cruz was in 2016. This is not shocking.
I’ll never forget when Trump gave him a speaking spot at the convention. He would not endorse Trump and told everyone to “Vote your conscience “!
Jimmy Kimmel ragged on Charlie Kirk every night with “humor”, for months.
Then finally, a (presumably) Kimmel fan murdered Kirk.
Who gets to define what constitutes hate speech, lies, propaganda and violent threats?
Sorry, but I’m with Ted on this one.
We all know that Trump does not believe in the first amendment. He banned the press from the White House grounds. It is sad that many on this conservative website support this view.
The proper context or more instructive analogue to this situation is - what did Russia and the Eastern block countries do with their state-run media when Soviet Union collapsed?
Because that's how one needs to look at these "deep state" controlled MSM outlets.
It is smart to be against an unpopular President.
It is smart to be against an unpopular President.
“For example, after Kimmel, host of ABC’s the Jimmy Kimmel Show, described Second Lady Melania Trump as an expecting widow and Trump posted on TRUTH, “Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.” Trump would have been in legal jeopardy if JAWBONE was law.”
So you support the first amendment for Jimmy Kimmel but not the president of the United States?
Apparently, some of OUR media is as full of it as the other side is....
I disagree with Trump on this proposed law, but you’re being hyperbolic and painting with too broad a brush. He didn’t ban “media” writ large from the White House grounds. He banned CNN and MSDNC. If a Lib banned Breitbart or any other conservative outlet the mainstream press would dutifully ignore it…
