How to flip a district RE This Red to Blue climate hawk needs your help
Randy Villegas is a people-powered climate hawk running against a fossil fueled Republican incumbent — David Valadao — in the swing-y California 22nd district.
Valadao has been challenged before, but has always managed to hang on to power. This year, Californians voted to redraw the map, and Democrats out-voted republicans in the Primary. That means, if Democrats unite as they should behind Villegas, he’ll flip this red to blue seat. But the Primary was contentious, and weeks ago. We need to remind working class democrats in this district why the race matters, and why Randy is the climate hawk to win it. And that means, you guessed it, we’re making calls for climate to support Randy Villegas tomorrow night. Can you join us?

4) The activists presume that CLIMATE is the issue because it is their issue. I guarantee there are many issues in the district. Pocketbook prices, wages are in the top 2, probably the top 1. Education, police, immigration, many issues are in the top 10 of which CLIMATE is far down the list.
I use this example to show that both sides often fail to understand how to win. For 21 months before the election push the issues YOU WANT TO PUSH. But the last 3 months before election day push the issues that THE VOTERS WANT TO HEAR.
Most importantly, understand that the voters want to know that YOU FEEL THEIR PAIN. Brushing off their feelings and telling them how they should feel and think in the last 3 months is not the way to win.
As redrawn this is a strong D leaning seat - 60-40 in the primary. Villegas is being smart to run hard, but he’s as close to assured of winning as any D is outside of the hard-left Bay Area and Westside LA seats and the supermajority black and Hispanic seats in LA.
No. The district was almost untouched in terms pf partisan balance. It was D+1. It is not D+2. Hardly a solid Democrat district, just a slight leaner.
The primary election turnout has to taken in context, but Valadao is probably toast in November even if not by any 60-40 margin.
It will NOT be because his district was radically changed because that didn't happen; it's because it was ALREADY a D-leaning district and the even more pertinent reason is, in 2026, D+2 isn't even really marginal. It's "likely D". Lots of normally "lean R" districts are "lean D" in 2026.
Valadao is nominally popular in the district, he is a squish and takes pains to attract D voters. And he's overcome adverse primary election results before.
This year is probably where he goes down.
Correcting typos:
“The district was almost untouched in terms of partisan balance. It was D+1. It is now D+2.”
This is useful.
You need to counter this with simple facts about what the climate changers want to do about it and how this hurts the little guy the worst.
1. Skyrocketing gas and electricity costs that are already unbearable.
2. Dictating what you can use in your house or NOT, and how the rich will still have gas stoves and air conditioning while you do not.
3. Loss of more jobs when companies flee to other states or countries where they don’t over regulate.
I obviously failed to communicate. The issue is “How to Flip a District”. Going further down the rabbit hole is the totally wrong thing to do in the last 3 months before election.
I have seen districts “FLIP”. I have seen large number of voters “FLIP”. TRUMP attracting so many Democrat voters in 2016 was a FLIP. Flips would happen more often if the “insiders” on each side were not so afraid of the voters that they need the safe security of the sameness.
Disagree. Challenge them on every issue they think is right, because the truth is, it is wrong and harmful to people.
Knowing the truth is like being armed in a dangerous world.
Just cheat. Register illegal aliens. Register Non citizens. Register bums and vagrants.
And make sure ballots are filled out in advance.
