Canadian David Bonin, 58, told The Post his ancestors fought in the American Revolution for the British — but seeing the July 4 celebrations has convinced him they were wrong.
“I think we should have followed the US and ousted the British,” said the Montreal native, after explaining he could trace his lineage back to British Loyalists based in Niagara Falls during the Revolution.

“They really get into it. They do everything super well,” he said, adding that he was now rethinking his thoughts about Canada.

President Trump is a genius.
Had to look twice! Not the Babylon Bee!
The EU is going to be a bigger problem for you than the Brits have been when Carney is done with Canada.
It’s actually hard to fault people from that time, for choosing sides. E.g. thank God we grew from Britain, rather than France or Spain or any other country or fiefdom.
He’s right, of course, but it would be a really hard choice. Esp. In light of all the “revolutions” that have happened in history and what it really led to. In light of that alone, it’s a really bold move to say you’re seceding and rebelling.
I had direct ancestors that were Patriots and Loyalists. One came from Germany and fought with the Loyalist unit Butler’s Rangers, and then moved to Canada. Another was a Lieutenant in the 2nd Regiment Dutchess County Militia (NY). His ancestors came from England.
However he’s still withholding judgement on whether or not the sun will rise in the east tomorrow.
“President Trump is a genius.”
He really is.
Great post. People from other countries see our President’s genius and also see America’s greatness. The Soros funded propaganda (AKA the fake news) sees it but fails to report it because they keep trying to hide how magnificent our country is under great leadership! Trump is a great leader.
When he gets back to Canada he will hear 100% negative against Trump and the USA from all the TV, all the newspapers, academics, universities, influencers, think tanks, non-profits, foundations, all the political parties - all of them gov’t funded.
And if there is any dissent on social media, Industry Minister Melanie Joey is getting ready to censor “misinformation”.
The colonies (what became the United States) were populated by English citizens some born here and many from England. Thus this war was not a war between nations but an internal rebellion in English territory.
Historians estimate that roughly 40% to 45% of the colonial population actively supported the Patriot cause and independence. About 15% to 20% were Loyalists, and the remaining 35% to 45% were neutral, undecided, or just trying to stay out of the conflict.
For eight years the British mostly kicked our ass. Least French support we would have lost. Thank you France. If England was not actively in conflict with France they could have turned their full resources against the rebellion and crushed us. There would be no USA without France.
The Marquis de Lafayette was a wealthy French aristocrat who volunteered as a major general in the Continental Army. He became a vital military commander, a close confidant to George Washington, and the key figure who successfully convinced the French government to provide crucial troops and naval support for the American cause. Lafayette was a figure as great as George Washington in our war of independence. Few know him. In WWI American pilots went to France to fly in battle for France before we entered WWI. In honor of General Lafayette they called themselves the “Lafayette Escadrille.”
