Burnham’s Labour would beat Reform, poll finds
The Telegraph ^ | May 20 | Story by Daniel Martin

Andy Burnham could lead Labour to victory against Reform in a general election, polling reveals.

The survey, carried out by More in Common, found that Labour would get an eight-point boost with Mr Burnham at its helm if he succeeded in his attempt to become the next party leader.

The “Burnham bounce” would secure Labour 30 per cent of votes, three points ahead of Nigel Farage’s party which has consistently led the opinion polls since the autumn of 2025.

This week, Mr Burnham was selected as Labour’s candidate to fight the Makerfield by-election, where he is tipped to beat Robert Kenyon, the Reform candidate. If he succeeds, he is expected to challenge Sir Keir Starmer for the leadership this summer.

As Labour leader, Mr Burnham would win back a third of voters who have left the party since the 2024 general election, according to More in Common’s survey of 2,599 people.

Almost half of defectors to the Greens and Liberal Democrats would return to Labour, as well as a fifth of those who have moved to Reform or the Tories.

Mr Burnham’s leadership would also dent the Green Party’s momentum under Zack Polanski, with its support dropping from 11 per cent to 7 per cent in a hypothetical election. The Conservatives would be on 20 per cent and the Liberal Democrats on 11 per cent.

The findings will encourage backers of the Greater Manchester Mayor, who believe he should replace Sir Keir to reverse Labour’s electoral woes and prevent Mr Farage from becoming prime minister.

No methodology for the poll can be found at the site, or at More in Common.

Hmmmmm...

it is Labour’s policies and hatred of the indigenous population that drove the voters away. Unless andy burnham changes those, they’re not coming back

If the headline is even a little bit true, then Burnham as prime minister might want to call a snap election.

Because things in Britain will only get worse. And Burnham’s honeymoon with the voters won’t last forever.

---- "No methodology for the poll can be found at the site, or at More in Common."

A cursory look at the site's popup shows it to be "globalist" around the West....

More in Common UK
More in Common US
Destin Commun (More in Common France)
More in Common Polska
More in Common Deutschland
More in Common Brazil
More in Common Spain

Specifically, and through the US version of the site, one learns it is an anti-Trump entity.

This is "internatopanlist" Left political advocacy in the guise of non-profit NGO. Push polling from the various countries above, intended for headlines.

It’s all about Globalism vs Localism. There’s too much Globalism, which causes the local population to be left out. That’s your ‘affordability crisis’ right there.

We have more rich people globally than ever before, and they can buy up all the desirable land in our countries, and shut out the locals. There’s no incentive to drop prices, even if the local population doesn’t have the purchasing power.

Three points is probably within the margin of error. So a Burnham premiership gets Labour to a tie with Reform.

But…

Burnham has to actually win the Makerfield by-election first. While he is the favorite, due to being respected in the Greater Manchester area, it’s not a lock, given Labour’s unpopularity.

If he wins, then he has to become Labour leader and Prime Minister. Which is probable, but not a sure thing.

Then he has to govern, before he can call General Election.

Nothing in this situation is a lock for Burnham or Labour.

Elon Musk cares more about the British people than our own government and police.

He has said he will fund prosecution of all involved in ignoring the pleas of a white young man who was dying after being stabbed because the black man who stabbed him pulled the racist card.

A good analysis

Also, a turbulent period. Markets roiled, pound falling presents even more challenges.

GRE-LBD-LBR vs CON-REF-RES

Labour won in 2024 with 33% of the vote but they were able to prevail in just about every seat in the Parliament.

Reform can win with 25%.

Yes that is a quirk of first past the post and a multi-party system

There are now 6 parties vying with each other up and down the UK in 650 districts.

Who knows where the chips may fall
