“Big Brother is watching you” is no longer a fictional admonition.
Your location is recorded wherever you go — by phone technology, license plate readers, Uber transactions and cameras everywhere.
That puts evidence of your personal movements in the hands of tech companies that you may never even have heard of.
Can the police and other government agencies force those companies to share that information?
That was the question before the US Supreme Court this week, in a case that could impact your privacy.
If your location history puts you in the vicinity of a crime, for example, you may become a suspect, swept up in the wide net cast to find the perpetrator. Law enforcement is increasingly using this tech, called geofencing, to pursue crimes that could otherwise go unsolved.
During Monday’s oral arguments in Chatrie v. United States, the justices tackled the competing interests of privacy and crime-fighting, and wrestled with how a US Constitution written two centuries ago can safeguard your rights in a very different age.

I can’t understand why fools keep buying Google powered devices and Windows boxes and Apple products, all of these companies are woke as he11.
Its time to switch to Linux and stop whining.
Be the solution you want to see happen and the solution will happen.
Without providing your identity to that phone, an agency could only ask for ownership information when before a judge seeking a warrant due to the location info provided by the phone.
In other words, just because you are in the vicinity does not mean they have access to your privacy or committed a crime. They must be able to show more info provided by that technology to prove you are “suspect”.
However, if geofencing is not allowed, what a beautiful day.
Interesting.
Lots of posters demanding something be done to curb crime. Lot’s of posters decrying something be done to curb crime.
That’s a fantasy. If a migration was to happen in mass the government would find a way to still watch you and companies find a way to target you for advertising. Too much money it is to ignore it. There is no solution except a social reset, gigantic solar flares, or a lot of emp’s going off.
Yeah, it's the first time. Nobody has ever had a difference of opinion about a particular subject before. Derp!

I haven’t walked around with a mask for years.
I saw a couple wearing masks a few days ago wearing masks in Walmart. However, quite a few Asians in the LA area wear masks. I wonder how well Covid is controlled in the PRC.
People can normally be plainly seen when walking about. Cars have license plates.
I’m surrounded by defeatists.
Realists or pragmatists. I base my assumptions on history and the current demographics of the country.
This is going to be one of my mottos going forward.
IT is now like what oil was when industrialization and internal combustion engines were new. There were many who rode the petroleum ride to riches, influence, and power. It required us to put anti-trust laws in place.
The same is true of IT and its evolution (e.g. AI). We now have a relatively small number of people who didn't contribute to the elemental foundation of IT, but realized its potential and exploited it. That's capitalism, and is OK, but only to the point at which you start believing you are more or better than the rest of humanity, and at which point you start selling their freedoms and liberty for self-gain.
I want Big Data to pay me for the use and dissemination of my personal data.
All that stuff would work seamlessly through WinBoat. You could simplify that dual boot and get rid of it.

People are going to find out that GEOFENCING is a very REAL THING
and will affect almost everything that
they can do (’1984’ eventually)
In many ways ‘1984’ is ALREADY here

I never said anything about surrender. I am talking about 60-70% of the people (apathetic) in this country and how it affects our daily life. Some of us can fight all day, but until it comes to a hot-fight we are outvoted but not outgunned and armed with resolve.
“ I want Big Data to pay me for the use and dissemination of my personal data.”
I want big data to stop listening to my conversations and marketing products to me based on those conversations.
Flock cameras and the like are out of the average person’s control. Plenty to complain about, imho.
