Hegseth, Indonesian Counterpart Announce Defense Partnership
U.S. Department of War ^ | April 13, 2026 | Matthew Olay

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth welcomed his Indonesian counterpart — Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin — to the Pentagon today, where the two men announced the establishment of the Major Defense Cooperation Partnership between the two countries.

...

The partnership will serve as a framework to advance bilateral defense cooperation between the U.S. and Indonesia in order to maintain peace and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

...

The new cooperation agreement features three "foundational pillars" that are based on each country's national sovereignty and mutual respect: military organization and capacity building; training and professional military education; and exercises and operational cooperation.

Under the framework of the agreement, both countries will work on exploring cutting-edge initiatives, "including codeveloping sophisticated asymmetric capabilities, pioneering next-generation defense technologies in the maritime, subsurface and autonomous systems domains, and cooperating on maintenance, repair and overhaul support to improve operational readiness," according to a joint statement on the new partnership.

The statement goes on to explain that both the U.S. and Indonesia have agreed to enhance joint special forces training, and that such engagements will make the bond between both countries' militaries stronger.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

We kick China out of the Panama Canal and now have a defense partnership for the Strait of Malacca. Right in the back yard of China and the Taiwan Strait. Winning.

They don’t like the Chicoms either. Could be religion. They were colonized by the Dutch and the Japanese. Could they get more brave in those island disputes now that the US just may have it’s back? Let’s hope another Tiananmen Square comes along.

control of the Straight of Malacca will cut Communist China back from its hegemony, efforts to gain more and more control over India, the mideast, and Africa. It also controls much of CCP’s oil importing activity.

Should be an interesting meeting between the president and Xi in May.

YES INDEED!
Xi can’t be very happy

PDJT has had communist China in his sights from the start.

Cutting off CCP’s access to Venezuelan oil.
Cutttng off CCP’s access to Iranian oil via Straights of Hormuz and now Straight of Malacca.
Cutting off CCP’s influence outposts at the Panama Canal.
Hindering CCP’s ‘belts and roads’ hegemony programs in South America, South Asia, Africa.
and of course, tariffs

This is actually a big hairy deal. It means interoperability between the US and Indonesian armed forces. Indonesia has just signaled that it may side with the US in a war over Taiwan.

That means China would be effectively blockaded by Indonesia alone.

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor to head-off the US, when they went after the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia)

Considering the shipping choke point that represents the Strait of Hormuz; international trade and shipping through the various waters of Indonesia is an even bigger choke point. China and India should have huge economic trade concerns over the implications. Japan, South Korea the Philippians and Taiwan should be smiling.
