Ottawa, April 1, 2026 — In a move that has sent shockwaves across North America, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney signed a historic accord today formally ceding Canada's sovereignty and integrating the country as the 51st state of the United States.
The "Continental Unity Agreement," inked during a brief ceremony at Rideau Hall, dissolves Canada's independent parliament, replaces the maple leaf flag with the Stars and Stripes, and transitions the loonie to the U.S. dollar effective immediately. Carney, flanked by U.S. officials, described the decision as "a bold step toward shared prosperity and unbreakable security in an uncertain world." "Canada and the United States have always been more alike than different," Carney said in prepared remarks. "By joining our great neighbor, we ensure economic stability, stronger defense, and a brighter future for every Canadian family. Sovereignty, in the 21st century, means knowing when to unite."
The agreement comes amid ongoing trade tensions and follows months of speculation about deeper integration. Canadian provinces will reportedly become U.S. states, with Alberta and Quebec granted special autonomy provisions during a transitional period. The Canadian Armed Forces will fold into the U.S. military structure, and universal healthcare will be renegotiated under American federal guidelines.
Opposition leaders reacted with outrage. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre called it "the ultimate betrayal of everything Canada stands for," while Bloc Québécois representatives vowed to fight for provincial independence. Public protests erupted in major cities, with demonstrators waving Canadian flags and chanting "True North strong and free."
White House officials hailed the move as a "win for the entire continent," with President Trump reportedly joking that "Canada just made itself great again."
The deal requires ratification by both nations' legislatures, but sources close to the negotiations say approval is expected within weeks.

Now if he were turning over sovereignty to China, that would be believable.
April Fool’s Day
The folks in Alberta have over 177,000 signers of a petition, which is more than enough to put a referendum on the ballot sometime this fall for separation from Canada. They know Mark Carnage, as they call him up there, will sell them out and their oil fields to China.
April fools day
Very.
but don’t give Carney any ideas ,LOL
April Fools Day prank.
FWIW , April Fools Day was started with a prank that came to be known as Mercer Day - check the name of the author of this gem :-)
As he should.
If that were the case, US would get millions of leftie votes.
I would say, US would became more like Canada in long run.
Please, Canadians, stay out there, we do not want you!
If Canada becomes a state, it will need a nickname—California is the Wine State, Arizona is the Copper State, Nevada is the Battle-Born State, New Mexico is the Cactus State, etc. Maybe Canada could be the Whiskey State.
Mr.GG2 bought it hook, line and sinker. 😆
My understanding of how things work up there is that Alberta does not have a snow ball’s chance in hell of becoming independent.
I expect their referendum to pass, however exiting Cannuckland has to be approved by their federal government. This will never ever happen, for it will set the stage for more pull-outs and possibly trigger the same here in the USA.
Our Chinese Communist brethren will not allow any of this.
But I must say, I do wish the good people of Alberta luck. The folks of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are really no different than those of the Central and South East US.
No ‘e’ in Canadian whisky. Like Scotch.
As long as I got one, my day is not wasted.
I suspect the same as well, but maybe a vote to secede from Alberta will wake up the Canadian people and will lead to the toppling of the ruling Liberal Party in their next parliamentary elections.
