The media were quick to declare the Greens the winner of this election, when it turned out to be a tie, and when the right of center parties altogether scored a massive victory. Hopefully, the Christian Democrats work out some kind of accommodation with the Alternative so as to honor this massive majority.

The CDU must unite with AfD while there is still a German nation to save.

CDU has to tie up with either the AfD or Greens to form a majority. I wouldn’t bet my money either direction.

Doesn’t this mean the ruling party will need to ‘move left’ to keep control ?

The ruling party is the Greens. They are left. As to whether they remain the ruling party is another question. They will be in a tie for the most seats with the center-right Christian Democrats. And, the Christian Democrats and the third-place populist-right Alternative together have a large majority.

I don't see it. The CDU (Merkel's party) is always going to be closer to the EU/Greens than the East German AfD. The CDU reminds of the Whigs.
