The Capitol riot of January 2021 set off the largest criminal investigation in the Justice Department’s history. For federal prosecutor Ashley Akers, it was a defining moment in a seven-year career spent untangling complex cases, from wire fraud to domestic terrorism. She helped put away dozens of rioters – including some who swung bats and beat police officers.
Then the tables turned. On his first day back in office, U.S. President Donald Trump granted clemency to every criminally charged January 6 rioter. Akers resigned.
Now, Akers and other prosecutors who handled Capitol riot cases face a new threat. Reuters has learned that pardoned January 6 rioters have been advising Justice Department officials how to pursue – and perhaps prosecute – the very prosecutors who helped put them behind bars.
Inside the Justice Department, a “Weaponization Working Group,” led by Ed Martin, a former defense lawyer for January 6 rioters, is drafting a previously undisclosed report that is re-examining the Capitol attack, according to four January 6 prosecutors and a review of government documents. When presented with Reuters’ findings, a department spokesperson confirmed the report is being drafted.
Half a dozen January 6 prosecutors told Reuters they fear that the report and Martin’s investigators could allege widespread wrongdoing by Capitol riot prosecutors, creating a pretext for taking legal action against them or to justify government payouts to rioters.
The Trump administration denies it is seeking revenge, saying recent investigations and indictments of political opponents are efforts to correct policy and address wrongdoing.

The J6ers should sue the article writer for slander and libel.
They were not “rioters”.
Seek revenge. SEEK REVENGE.
If they’re worried about being found guilty by a DC-area jury, Good Lord, they must’ve done terrible things!!!
At least Rioters — I mean Reuters — isn’t calling them “insurrectionists.”
They need to be tried in the home jurisdictions of the people they persecuted.
And it took FIVE writers from Rooters to compile this. A sham article about a sham operation created from our sham feds.
“”””denies it is seeking revenge, saying recent investigations and indictments of political opponents are efforts to correct policy and address wrongdoing.”””
This is exactly what they said when the weaponized the government against conservatives. Except in the case of President Trump and his administration it is the truth.
Karma can be such a bitch.
“Rioters smashed through security barriers, stormed the building and clashed with law enforcement, injuring dozens of officers.”
There are videos of mostly peaceful protesters being waved in by capitol cops, who moved barriers aside. And pictures of a capitol cop murdering a protester.
But nothing will happen.
What is happening: illegals—”refugees”—are getting millions of “resettlement” tax dollars; Republicans have signalled they will vote with Democrats on funding Obamacare; and, the DOJ is siding with the gun grabbers.
Good thing we won, huh?
Karma can be such a bitch.
If the FBI under the corrupt Wray spent half the time going after Antifa and terrorists among us instead of going after grannies and people who simply walked on Capitol grounds, this country would be a heck of a lot better off and safer As usual, Reuters is pushing leftist propaganda
Maybe Rooters Disinformation perveyors Mike Spector, M.B. Pell, Benjamin Lesser, Ned Parker and Isaac Vargas, can keep Ashley Akers, and other prosecutors who handled Capitol Protestor persecution, company in Gitmo cells.
They can cry in each other's arms.
I wonder how often Antifa and BLM are referred to as “rioters.” How about people who interfere with ICE. “Rioters?”
There was a lot going on. It was not monolithic. Dr. Gold gave a scheduled speech in the Capital building. Facing threats that she would spend decades in prison, she “confessed” and spent months in prison. There was also violence. Four Trump supporters died that day as a result of violence.
I think some of the violence was planned and implemented by such groups as Antifa and BLM. Some of the crowd may have incensed after attacks, that included gas cannisters, by law enforcement. What a mess. I think the prosecutors went after everyone but the guilty.
Wonder how many FIB agents are looking for a new job before the trial starts?.
The Reuters article is full of Leftist claptrap as usual.
Q: Did the prosecutors use the BNC’s doctored report as evidence in any of their cases...?
Because if they did, any resulting convictions should be tossed.
And those convicted should consider doing suing BBC as well.
“ They need to be tried in the home jurisdictions of the people they persecuted.”
The DC courts should be eliminated altogether by congress. Justice does not occur in this jurisdiction.
People who falsified documents to get FISA warrants, who lie to congress, who utilize the instrumentalities of government to persecute the innocent, all walk free and unafraid.
In far too many cases, the judges themselves thwart any semblance of justice, e.g., Boasberg, Howell, et al, take your pick. They wear the robes of the honorable, but their conduct is anything but.
