USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier arrives in Caribbean in major buildup near Venezuela
CBS News ^ | Nov 16, 2025

The most advanced aircraft carrier in the nation crossed into the Caribbean Sea on Sunday, the U.S. Navy said, marking a major buildup in the region.

The arrival of the USS Gerald R. Ford marks a major moment in what the Trump administration says is a counterdrug operation but has been seen as an escalating pressure tactic against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The U.S. has asserted that Maduro is complicit with armed criminal gangs that smuggle drugs into the U.S., allegations that Maduro has rejected. And over the last two months, the U.S. military has conducted strikes against at least 22 vessels it alleges were ferrying drugs from South America to the U.S., killing at least 83 people.

The Ford rounds off the largest buildup of U.S. firepower in the region in generations, in what Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has dubbed Operation Southern Spear. The Ford's carrier strike group, which includes squadrons of fighter jets and guided-missile destroyers, transited the Anegada Passage near the British Virgin Islands on Sunday morning, the Navy said.

So the question is a.) what can they do to force Madura out of office and install the winner of the last election— all without firing a shot. B) if that fails how can they evict Maduro without with the least amount of bloodshed.

Kinetic action against Maduro will send oil sky high again.

It will make any products coming out of South America shoot up in price as well.

Just what we need moving into the winter months.

Better moves would be to send the carrier close to”
1. San Pelosi-shit-sco
2. Portland
3. Seattle
4. Boston
5. NYC

Reason: Many more low lifes and enemies of America there than in Venezuela.

The answer to both questions is it’s none of our business.

It is very much the business of the United States to interdict drug boats on the high seas. But as bad as Maduro is, it’s not our business to force regime change here, there, and everywhere.

Quiet diplomacy, good.
Gunboat diplomacy, bad.

Gunboat diplomacy, bad.

In terms of past crusades, I can't argue that statement.

However, that logic cannot apply toward chyna proxies, no different than the soviet union.

Like it or not, this IS a war.

Denial is as bad as the zeeper crusade.

Let's take care of our own house first. We still have tens of millions of illegals in this country. Only 4 corporate officers or board members have been prosecuted, convicted, and incarcerated for hiring illegals under this Trump Administration.

Healthcare costs are markedly increasing. Our national debt is soaring. Again, let's take care of our house first.

Venezuela is far down on the list of problems that we have. In fact, Venezuela is not our problem.

Still haven’t heard why we are bombing them instead of interdicting these boats and making arrests. Guess Trump needs a distraction.

It can’t be about drugs, or we would see some banks in New York seized and some offshore banks hit with massive sanctions.

Oh, and big pharma wouldn’t be feted in the Oval Office.

Didn’t we learn our lesson in Iraq and Afghanistan?

I get the China connection.

But here’s the problem. Every time we try regime change, we are given excellent reasons why it simply must be done. We saw that in Vietnam, Iran, and Iraq - to name just a few.

And then the whole thing unravels.

Maybe I’m just too isolationist. But I think George Washington was on to something:
Avoid foreign entanglements.

Well, well, well we know they certainly did not send it there for purposes it was not meant. I can not wait for this cancer on society called illegal drug cartels to be eliminated so the healing can begin.

Will it be a few strikes here and there or all of them simultaneously? The intel says simultaneously!!

No, you are absolutely right. It would be one of the dumbest things Trump could ever do. The “drugs” excuse doesn’t wash... If that were logical rational justification to bomb the hell out of a country we would have done it to Columbia 50 years ago... Anyone who believes this is actually about the drugs is dumber than a box of rocks. Last thing we need is another Vietnam in our own backyard within MISSILE RANGE of our homeland. The risks far far exceed the excuses given.

Russia, Iran, Hezbollah and the Chicoms have been in Venezuela, and other South American countries, for years. With the border closed, they will seek other ways to futz with the civilized world.

A little futzing back may not be such a bad thing.

The problem is that the ‘entanglement’ this time was facilitated by domestic elements.

We have once again been encircled... and infiltrated. As much as I hated what I learned of Vietnam and hate gw for his crusade, I agree with POTUS that we need to push back somewhere.

If it is true the U.S. is losing 75,000 to 100,000 citizens to illicit foreign drugs each year then the boat strikes seem like a mild enough response.

As a country we need to address the demand side as well.

You damn right. I pray every site that has been recorded through intel gets destroyed, all hit within split seconds of each other.

Send a clear and present message to a clear and present danger.
