Uh, don’t we need her seat in the House? I seem to remember that she had to back out of Trump admin gig for that very reason.

Stefanik is intelligent, rational, and honest. Accordingly, her run for governor of New York will be as successful as Lee Zeldin’s.

Well, she isn’t exactly a strong social conservative, and I’ve never been a big fan of hers, but in a place like New York we sometimes have to take what we can get...if we can get it.

Did you use the word “successful” correctly in this sentence? ( KNOCK ON WOOD ).

New York needs to be broken into two states - Upstate, and NY City and five surrounding counties.

RE: Well, she isn’t exactly a strong social conservative

Elise Stefanik supports restrictions on abortion (- Supported overturning Roe v. Wade, aligning with Republican platforms that favor constitutional bans), voted to protect same-sex marriage, and opposes transgender women participating in women’s sports.

She is a strong advocate for school choice. She has sponsored and promoted legislation to expand educational options for families, particularly those in underserved communities.

She is a staunch defender of gun rights and the Second Amendment. She consistently opposes gun control measures and supports legislation to expand firearm access and limit state-level restrictions.

She strongly opposes illegal immigration and does not support a path to legalization or amnesty for undocumented immigrants. Her stance emphasizes border security, enforcement, and opposition to sanctuary policies.

That’s better than most Democrats in NY State. As Ronald Reagan used to say, if you agree with a candidate on 80% of the issues, Vote for Him/her.

Her election would be a huge improvement. The odds are a bit long, but she is a talented candidate.

And she has to represent New York They are liberal.

People want candidates to preach and convert their constituents. It is silly

Republicans will still win the seat if Stefanik becomes governor.

Grok:

NY-21 is one of the safest Republican-held seats in the U.S. House. Key metrics include:
Cook Partisan Voting Index (PVI): R+10. This means the district voted roughly 10 percentage points more Republican than the national average in the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections, indicating a strong underlying GOP lean independent of any specific candidate

RE: NY City and five surrounding counties.

Both the suburbs of Nassau County and Suffolk County, Long Island VOTED last November to RETAIN Republicans in the Executive and Legislative branches.

In fact, there is an existing and historically recurring movement for Long Island to secede from New York State and become its own state, often referred to as the “51st state” proposal.

Election isn’t until next Fall. Sure they will have a candidate to fill it.

Yup—Zeldin ran an outstanding race and was a great candidate—and still lost 53%-47%.

It is hard to see how any Republican could beat that number.

Won her district by 60/40 or so...

Interesting to note that district was 60/40 democrat as recently as 2010.

She won the district initially by 55/40 in a 3 way race in 2014.

Open seat is always more vulnerable than an incumbent one on average, but I dunno if upstate new york is going to go back Dem anytime soon. Especially with Hochul on the Ticket for re-election next cycle.
