Explosion and resulting fire, possibly the result of a crash involving a cargo plane with UPS Airlines, near Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky
Not very far from the UPS sorting facility is the KPR (Kentucky Petroleum Recycling facility). When the aircraft hit that, a giant fireball occurred.
I did a nonstop Atlanta to Tokyo in March. 14 hours.

Awful tragic incident.
UPS is one of the most careful carriers.
The service log of the plane might give an idea what failed.
Wonder if the big plane they transport horses on is still in L’ville. We used to se it all the time.
Terrible. Have not seen that video, but have seen them from opposite side of runway.
When the engine fell off the best pilots in the world could not avoid crashing.
Certain to be a maintence failure.
Likely true.
Terrible failure on engine and or engine mount.
It is very likely that UPS has good maintenance team. One fatal slip had tragic consequences.
Will take a while to identify from evidence what actually happened.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Federal aviation officials issued an order Saturday for McDonnell Douglas MD-11 planes not to be flown pending further inspection, reinforcing cargo carriers’ decision to ground their fleets following a deadly crash at the UPS global aviation hub in Kentucky.
UPS and FedEx said Friday that they were grounding their fleets of McDonnell Douglas MD-11s “out of an abundance of caution,” and the Federal Aviation Administration's directive the following day sidelined the planes until inspection and correction of any problems.
In the Louisville crash, the jet's left engine detached during takeoff. “This condition could result in loss of continued safe flight and landing,” the FAA said, adding that the issue “is likely to exist or develop in other products of the same design.”
The crash Tuesday at UPS Worldport killed 14 people including the three pilots on the MD-11, which was headed for Honolulu.
“Flight records suggest the UPS MD-11 that crashed underwent maintenance while it was on the ground in San Antonio for more than a month until mid-October. It is not clear what work was done.”
