A Zohran Mamdani mayoralty would mean a long, sour decline for NYC
NY Post ^ | 1 Nov 2025 | Michael Goodwin

As a young reporter at The New York Times, I had the good fortune of working with an experienced political editor named Sheldon Binn.

A wounded veteran of World War II, he explained the simple yardstick he used to judge politicians.

“The only thing I ask is that they don’t make things worse,” I recall him saying.

“That’s the best you can hope for.”

As a wide-eyed idealist, I found his standard shockingly low and cynical.

But these days, Binn’s rule makes more sense to me than ever.

Exhibit A is the New York mayoral race, where the Democrats’ nominee, Zohran Mamdani, is pushing a sweepingly radical agenda.

If voters are foolish enough to elect him Tuesday, his tenure wouldn’t just make things slightly worse.

His policies would inflict major damage in myriad ways, from declining public safety to out-of-control spending.

Schools would be further dumbed down and his pledge to hike taxes would drive away businesses, families and jobs.

His antisemitic attacks on Israel make him unfit to lead the Jewish capital of America.

Mamdani also vows to close Rikers Island, with no place to put the 7,000 inmates.

The result would be a rapid decline in the quality of life for the city’s remaining residents, workers and visitors.

And not just for a short time.

Gotham’s history is chock full of lessons on how the actions of a mayor, good or bad, can have an outsized impact for years and even decades beyond his tenure.

It will provide lots of schadenfreude for me.

Socialism is like a drink that has a sweet layer on top, but then is poison. By the time you get to the poison part, it’s too late. NYC is about to find that out.

Oh, but it gets worse.

Mamdani is also a radical Muslim. He will begin to institute Shariah principles. But he’ll do it slowly, and carefully. So the mainstream media will find it easy to ignore.

🙁

The Big Apple has fallen from the tree of liberty. It is rotting on the ground and being devoured.

Don’t know about sour but NYC has been on a long decline already since Giuliani.

It'll be subtle.

He'll demand bodegas in NYC to carry halal products.

Then he'll encourage those in the NYPD and the FDNY to retire or quit.

A soft conquest.

By the time the clueless frogs notice the water is getting hotter, it’ll be too late.

Yep. Dr. Peter Hammond mentioned that in his study on how Muslims behave as a percentage of the population. The tipping point is at 5%. That’s when they start demanding things, including that every store carry halal food (as you noted).

NYC is now around 9% Muslim. A Muslim mayor would be a force multiplier, so to speak.

🙁

Long Decline???

I’m thinking it might be a quick destruction.
As Private Hudson said in Aliens: “We’re on an express elevator to hell, going down!”.

NYC is already in a long decline, electing a Jew hating commie muzzie will only speed things up. NYC may find itself in pure Hell in short order.

Exactly. New York City has been in decline since the 1930s, saw a brief respite due to World War 2, but continued its decline in the 1950s. It passed the point of no return in the 1960s and 1970s. Even the propaganda media can keep up the lies anymore.

Just curious, when was the last time you've visited NYC?

When will NYC start having Muslim Grooming / Rape gangs like they have in Britain? Or are they already in the USA?

Those gangs flourish when the police look the other way. That’s exactly what happened in Britain.

Will the cops be ordered to look the other way after Mamdani becomes mayor?
That would be a safe bet.

Ah, but there are two small rays of hope.

One: The New York Post won’t look the other way. They will report.

And two: Trump won’t look the other way either. The NYPD might be ordered to stand down. But not the US marshals.

I worked there for years. Went to school there as well. Some family were born and raised there.

Like most cities, it's been in decline for decades but also in denial.

They could paint it a certain way for the tourists and lean on the financial district, the fashion industry, the publishing houses, the advertising houses, and the television industry to pay for things but even those have moved a lot of their functions out of there.

The question they can no longer answer is, "What would keep this city from looking like every other failed city in the United States?" The answer is "Nothing." Cities no longer serve the industries they once did, with very few exceptions.
