ARLINGTON, VA — A ground stop issued at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday has been lifted, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. A ground delay is now in place.
In an alert posted on the agency's website, the FAA said departing flights were delayed due to "security."
The alert is in effect until 10 p.m. ET, the FAA said. As of 3:15 p.m., the average flight delay was 32 minutes.

Be aware that the entire eastern seaboard from the coast to at least 200-300 miles into the Atlantic, is plastered with FAA restrictions and notams.
What about pizza deliveries to the Pentagon? Has there been a spike?
It, and another Gulfstream which followed it into the air two minutes later are now both on the ground in Newark (but on opposite sides of the airport)
DC to NYC seems like a really short hop. Why not just drive?

The ground stop at DCA Reagan was prompted by an active air defence incident NE of Washington, DC today. ATC archives show planes were advised of this, along with the possibility of a “priority movement” due to Marine Two transiting the area with the VP for a flight from the USNO to Andrews.

There may be real reasons for the stoppage, in addition to the news coverage reasons.
