Boomers, Gen Xers dominate NYC’s early voting tallies — why that could be a bad sign for Zohran Mamdani

Political baby Zohran Mamdani is firing up Boomers — and it could be a bad sign for his bid to become New York City’s next mayor.

Voters 50 and up accounted for nearly 60% of ballots cast during the first two days of early voting in the city’s mayoral election, data shows.

The early flood of ballots cast by Gen Xers, Baby Boomers and the oldest New Yorkers — first reported by Gothamist — is likely far more helpful to ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, 67, a moderate looking to keep the 34-year-old socialist Mamdani out of City Hall, said Stephen Graves, president of Gotham Polling.

“It is unquestionable that the higher the turnout the more it favors Cuomo,” he said.

“The more the turnout, you pick up more people who are non-partisan and aren’t super-engaged and that favors the middle.”

Roughly 164,000 voters hit polling sites Saturday and Sunday, with voters aged 50 and up accounting for 95,000 of those ballots, city Board of Election data shows.

The turnout so far has drastically outpaced the nearly 67,000 votes cast during the June Democratic primary’s first two days.

Mamdani, during that contest, rode a wave of enthusiasm among younger voters to shockingly wallop Cuomo and clinch the Democratic nomination.

But Graves said while Mamdani seems a lock to win again among young voters, his overall support isn’t particularly deep.

Which US city could come closest to replacing NYC (not including Chicago or Las Angeles).

A city in Texas or Florida? Phoenix?

Probably not Miami since it’s commonly considered the Capital of Latin America with its entertainment.

Probably Dallas but since mamdani’s rise the rumor in the business world has been when he’s elected the banking business and banks in general will move their headquarters to Miami...

Most likely but on the other hand maybe enough people will be scared enough to turn out.

From what I understand from past elections, very few NYC residents actually vote with a tiny percentage of the population usually deciding the winners and usually that tiny percentage is made up of the commies and other wack jobs which is why the NYC council is an insane asylum, why idiots like Schumer, AOC are in office.

enough people will be scared enough to turn out.

Possible. If enough boomers, business owners (especially those who own bodegas), Orthodox Jews and some Republicans all turn out to vote Cuomo.

Then maybe.

Zohran Mamdani looks good in a suit and he's a smooth talker—similar to Obama. It won't be easy to beat him.

He's not like Kamala Harris. So we've lucked out with the presidential election in 2024.

Cuomo isn’t a moderate by any stretch of the imagination. He gave NY cashless bail, sanctuary state, defund the cops. He called ICE thugs and threatened them. The only difference between him and Mamdani is he isn’t a filthy muzzie. He also murdered 15k old people and stole billions from HUD.

I knew the hype wouldn’t last and New Yorkers would come to their senses. So many people here actually thought he would be mayor based on early polling, which is meaningless.

I’m expecting the Jews in NY to vote only as they know how, and that is, against their own best interests.

Even if Mamdani loses, it won’t be because Jews voted for someone else.

NYC voters WANT mandami and they will vote him into city hall. NYC will be another Boston, Chicago or LA. Sane people will have to vote with their feet.

It doesn't have to be a big city. And the economic center doesn't also have to be a big city.

And, why not two replacements: one for democrats and one for republicans. I know which one would be most successful already.

“The more the turnout, you pick up more people who are non-partisan and aren’t super-engaged and that favors the middle.”

This statement in quotes is ignorant. Most often, the more the tuurnout...someone has a good ground game to get out the vote. There are exceptions. But good ground game is #1.
