Major split among Anglican Communion announced
Christian News ^ | October 16, 2025 | Donna Birrel

GAFCON, a movement of conservative, biblically orthodox Anglicans, has announced that it will no longer recognize the authority of the Archbishop of Canterbury. It has also instructed provinces to remove any reference to being in communion with the See of Canterbury and the Church of England.

In what is being viewed as a major split in the Anglican Communion and a snub to the Church of England, the GAFCON primates issued a statement saying the Anglican Communion will be “reordered” and that provinces of the Global Anglican Communion will not take part in meetings called by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

They have also rejected the other so-called Instruments of Communion, which include the Lambeth Conference, the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC), and the Primates' Meeting. The primates said those instruments have “failed to uphold the doctrine and discipline of the Anglican Communion.”

The statement, written by GAFCON chairman Most Rev. Dr. Laurent Mbanda, Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church of Rwanda, said GAFCON primates could not continue to have communion with those who “advocate the revisionist agenda, which has abandoned the inerrant Word of God as the final authority.”

Anglicans who hold traditional biblical views have long opposed the Church of England’s stance on issues such as sexuality and gender.

The statement, published on Thursday, came almost two weeks after Rt. Rev. Dame Sarah Mullally was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury-designate, becoming the first woman to hold the role.

Earlier this year, the Church in Wales also elected Most Rev. Cherry Vann, who is in a same-sex relationship, as Archbishop of Wales.

Discussed in earlier thread. Most of Anglicans in Africa splitting from Church of England. Anglicans third largest denomination in Africa after Catholics and Pentacontals.

Major schism. Probably female Archbishop of Canterbury, her views, and graffiti-like "art" in Canterbury Cathedral were last straws. Anglican Church of North American with about 1/8 as many churches as Episcopal Church already does not recognize Church of England's authority. Anglican Church of North America does not used modernized language of litergy, has conservative positions on social issues, and doesn't have many female priests.

Maybe agreement with Pope with King Charles on Pope Leo to pray together at Sistine Chapel, etc is prompted by this. Maybe is negotiation and Church of England agreed to Pope's terms after this.

That seems to be another step away from Christendom.
Funny just when Episcopalian Anglicans were returning to Roman Catholicism

“The Church of England and the Catholic Church are working towards reconciliation, highlighted by the upcoming historic meeting where King Charles III will pray with Pope Leo XIV, marking the first such event since the Reformation. This reflects ongoing efforts to bridge theological differences and promote unity among Christian denominations.”

We have a friend that moved from the Wesleyan church to the Anglican Church (US). Her family is conservative Christianity-wise so it must have been a good fit for them. John Wesley (founder of the Methodist church) had been Anglican.

My understanding is the Episcopal church in America is the Anglican church in England and they had their own schism years ago.

This ain’t 1570. Chuck has no legal authority to cut a deal with the pope. The Church of England is an arm of the British government and is thus subject to acts of. There’s no possibility of the Parliament returning over the keys to the C of E to the Catholic Church, at least not without latter totally caving on women’s ordination, homosexuality, abortion etc. Not to say that many if not most of the liberals in Catholicism wouldn’t cheer such a thing, but it’d likely be a bridge too far for the Vatican and launch a full-scale civil war within Catholicism that they don’t want.

My understanding is the Episcopal church in America is the Anglican church in England and they had their own schism years ago.

The Church of England is still in communion with The Episcopal Church (TEC (U.S.)) and the Anglican Church of Canada (ACoC).

The schism in TEC over ordaining/marrying homosexuals started in NOV 2003 when TEC's presiding bishop consecrated the new diocesan bishop of New Hampshire who was divorced from his wife, had adult children and was currently in a homosexual relationship with another man.

The Anglican Church in America (ACA), which schismed from TEC, takes the orthodox position against ordaining/ marrying homosexuals, though some dioceses are ordaining women into the priesthood. The ACA is not in communion with the Church of England.

No, there’s an Anglican Church in North America. It is a part of GAFCON. There are other Anglican churches that are not all part of GAFCON.

Every Christian denomination needs to do this, break with the false prophets and little antichrists...they are an abomination.

Depending on what sour you believe somewhere between half and 90 percent of the Anglican community is now no longer in communion with the Church of England.

These quarrels between the Roman Catholic Church (the Pope) and the Church of England (Henry VIII) are about 500 years old. Interesting to see that what began in the 1530s is still festering in 2025. At least official beheadings and burnings at the stake are no longer a thing.

The split in the Church of England, might well be followed by a split in the Catholic Church thanks to wacko Leo, who is doing his best to alienate traditional Catholics.

And, so long as y’all buy food from Chi-fil-A you are funding this, just like Soros. CFA made the decision years ago (when tossing out the religious founders) to fund outfits like CovenenantHouse — which promotes and funds DQueen shows for kiddies. I objected to corporate on this when they did it and was told that they HAD to do this to be inclusive.

Haven’t bought anything from CFA since then. They do not uphold American or Christian values. No more so than Sharia law.
