”introduced so people can prove they have the right to work here”

Do the illegal immigrants actually work?

It’s actually the lefties’ dream - CONTROL.

Anything that helps that is “good” even “double plus good”.

With digital currency control will be nearly complete.

He replied: 'We need to address the fact that too many people can come to this country and work illegally.'

Start by stopping the boats plus flying them in during nights.

Not only just unashamed, but proud KeirStasi of his transformation of ‘GreatBritain’ into police state ‘airship one’.

So:

Step 1. Disarm you population
Step 2. Let your country be overrun by hordes of the unknown
Step 3. Feign impotence to quell the crime and social rot that ensues
Step 4. Invert the laws against your native people, in furtherance of tolerance for the neighbor-newcomers
Step 5. Abolish identity, culture and language - publicly
Step 6: Ban all opposition; prosecute them, ban them from the ballot, impeach them, target their family, de-bank them, censor their speech, and restrict their travel
Step 7. Implement an AI monitoring force upon the people you serve - to shield you from your unpopularity
Step 8. Require similar Orwellian credentials for foreign visitors
Step 9. Total control

The misrepresentation around this, right across British discourse, is unreal. Off the chart.

The idea didn’t even come from politicians. It came from people and businesses during the COVID lockdown.

Over 400 different agencies across every sector of society were complaining that wherever people need to show ID *in person* they couldn’t do it (young adults getting carded to prove their age before buying alcohol, for example; or passing a simple check before entering a contract or rental agreement over a Zoom meeting; opening a bank account, voting...)

There was no consistency if you were not allowed to be there in person; and the traditional requirement of “official photo ID + proof of name + proof of address” fell apart for anyone who’s never had a passport or driving license.

Veteran photo ID is okay for some things, but disallowed for other things, and so on. Perversely, some people were allowed to use a disability badge (which doesn’t have name or photo on it) in some situations where other people weren’t. It literally depended on the person asking to see the ID - they could disqualify something for any reason no matter how daft - got a dog-eared corner on your birth certificate? “Sorry, I can’t accept it.” Your domestic gas bill’s from a supplier the official’s never heard of? “Don’t you have one from British Gas?” And so on.

Then people realised, actually, we have ALWAYS had this problem. This was even an issue when I was a kid in the 80s! If you need to show your age, address etc. to someone in order to get something out of them, your mileage varies depending on what you’ve got AND it varies because THEY GET TO DECIDE if they’ll accept it or not.

People said, why can’t we have something as straightforward as what we already have for digital commerce?

Our banks issue us a card with our name embossed on it, a chip, and a three-digit security code on it. Physical cards can easily be faked, and the security code can be seen, so nothing stops a crook using someone elses’ physical bank card unless an attendant asks them to prove that it is their card with their name on it.

A more difficult part to jailbreak is the PIN because it’s not on the card; it’s in your head. The system works in any situation where a crook can’t complete the transaction without knowing the PIN.

Nowadays the bank ALSO issues a digital representation of the card, inside their own app. We can do the same stuff with the digital card as with the physical card but the phone itself is like the PIN with bells on. If a phone thief can’t unlock a phone, and/or can’t bypass the PIN/biometric lock within the banking app, to get to your copy of your card, to authorize their own fraudulent act, it limits the damage they can do.

All of this sounds complicated but it really isn’t from the end user’s perspective. If you pay for something with your Amex bank card in Apple Pay, it is MORE SECURE than paying by handing over the Amex card itself.

All the new government digital ID plan really is, is set up similar principles for using photo ID as already exist for using bank cards.

If you’ve got a driving license, you’ve got a government-issued photo ID on a card. If you’ve got a passport, you have government-issued photo ID on a card/book. But if you have neither, you can use a different government-issued photocard. The state attests that IDs in the Britcard digital wallet are all linked to the same person - so showing your driving license is no different to showing your passport, or veterans’ card, or NHS card, when they’re all represented inside your digital wallet.

Which means... If there’s an occasion where you need to produce your driving license (in bog standard situations that have ALWAYS been there), you can now wave your phone at them as well as / instead of producing the physical card. The whole conspiracy theory of the state tracking who you’re waving your phone screen at when they’ve got no way of validating the person NOT holding your phone is beyond retarded - even on a technical level, it isn’t remotely practical.

That’s all there is to it. The UK consultation even makes it abundantly clear there’ll be no compulsion to opt into the system and no powers to the police to demand to see your digital ID beyond the powers they ALREADY have to ask for ID with non-digital stuff if there’s a compelling reason for them to ask.

There are all kinds of questions that need to be answered about what challenge/response mechanisms will be supported, but I’m really getting annoyed with rampant nonsense being dressed up as “legitimate” concerns. If people actually read the proposals, instead of agitprop, they’d mostly be going “Ah, so it’s really just THAT.”

“Oh, you want to buy beef, let me check. Sorry, ma’am, you’ve used up your 1kg allocation for the month. In case you didn’t didn’t know, the health ministry has declared eating meat is unhealthy and thus is gradually lowering the allowable limit to wean people off of it.”
