President Donald Trump said on Saturday he had withdrawn the nomination of Erik Siebert, who has been overseeing an investigation of a prominent Trump critic, to be a federal prosecutor in Virginia.

"Today I withdrew the Nomination of Erik Siebert as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, when I was informed that he received the UNUSUALLY STRONG support" of two Democratic senators, Trump posted on Truth Social.

Siebert resigned on Friday after Trump called for his removal, Reuters reported, citing an internal email and a person familiar with the matter.

But Trump posted: "He didn't quit, I fired him!"

Siebert, who has not been confirmed by the Senate for his position, has overseen a fraud investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James but has not pursued charges and has expressed doubts about the case.

"...I was informed that he received the UNUSUALLY STRONG support" of two Democratic senators, Trump posted on Truth Social."

Interesting, but care should be taken, now that POTUS has expressed that as a reason.

Beware that DEMS might conspire to 'strongly support' really good candidates as a psyop to try to achieve a similar result...

A valid concern, but I that trust the people Trump has surrounded himself with this time around are smart enough to detect and deal with those types of games.

Yep. Fire him. Not on the president’s side. He put up with way too much of this nonsense in his first term.

Erik Siebert joined the US Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Virginia in 2010 during he Obama administration, an while he may have been non-partisan back then, I suspect that he now has an inside the beltway mentality in that advancing his career — with the support of Democratic Senators Warner and Kaine — is more important than prosecuting a high profile politician.

I guess he only thinks Leticia James can make up charges where there’s no injured party, but actual criminal charges he can forget about

I can’t think of a better reason to fire an appointee
