Chicago aldermen are once again warning downtown residents and workers to be prepared for potential chaos ahead of this weekend’s Mexican Independence Day, a holiday that has increasingly turned into an unsanctioned takeover of the Loop and surrounding areas by car caravans.
The warnings come as city officials brace for another year of traffic jams, fireworks, and noisy celebrations that have tested police and exasperated locals. CPD arrested 69 people during last year’s four-day weekend, including at least 19 for illegal gun possession.
Aldermen Brian Hopkins (2nd) and Brendan Reilly (42nd), who represent much of the downtown area, have issued messages to constituents urging them to be prepared for street closures starting Friday and running through September 16. Hopkins said police may require residents and workers to present “access passes” at certain checkpoints if closures are imposed to ward off the caravans. The city has distributed passes to building managers, the aldermen said.
“The Chicago Police Department will be taking a multifaceted approach to keeping car caravans, many of which originate in the suburbs, away from our neighborhoods and downtown, and I applaud their efforts,” Hopkins wrote in his email.

Or maybe legal immigrants of Mexican background are leaving the Democrats to vote for -- ¡Dios mío, no! -- Republicans.
The illegals claim they want U.S. citizenship and yet they wave the flags of their home countries south of the border and celebrate Mexican Independence. Something stinks. They will all be applying for “dual citizenship” once they are added to U.S. Goverment welfare rolls.
To bad the French didn’t win everything would have been much better for everybody.

What better way to celebrate Mexican independence day but to be in Mexico? Time to go home and rid your lands of the Cartels and bring freedom at long last. Ask yourself, what would Benito Juarez Do? Isn’t Mexico worth fighting for?
