The war of words between the Church of England and Reform UK over migration policy is set to intensify after a bishop who clashed with Nigel Farage said religious leaders must be “courageous” in speaking out politically.
Church leaders are “not going to cease” denouncing migration policies that lack “compassion” and inflame community tensions because people appreciate archbishops and bishops intervening, the Bishop of Oxford, the Right Rev Steven Croft, has said.
“I think we have a responsibility to speak out and particularly just try to offer a global perspective and to offer a perspective on behalf of the poor both in the United Kingdom and globally,” he said. “And we’re not going to cease from doing that any time soon.”
Some critics have suggested the next Archbishop of Canterbury, to be finally appointed this autumn, should spend less time speaking out on political issues and focus instead on internal issues facing the church, such as low attendances, safeguarding scandals and divisions over gay rights.
Croft said of the next archbishop: “I would absolutely want to encourage them to be courageous in speaking out and speaking into the life of the nation.”
Archbishops of Canterbury have long used sermons and speeches in the House of Lords to express concern over government policy on issues from same-sex marriage to assisted dying. The Right Rev Justin Welby was outspoken in his condemnation of the Conservative government’s plan to deport migrants to Rwanda.

And who is going to tell us what Jesus would do?
The COA is was captured by the father of lies years ago.
“…offer a global perspective and a perspective on behalf of the poor.” This is why UK will become a moslem country in our lifetimes, and these sanctimonious twits couldn’t care less. Before this century is out there will no longer BE a Church of England, at least not in England. Sharia Law will not tolerate it.
Fake religion founded by a serial killer.
These Church leaders need to awaken to the true meanings of courage and compassion and to a morality far more profound than the misguided morality that they preach.
Do they do NGO’s there?
King Henry VIII’s abortion of a denomination is still proving its stupidity after all these centuries....
My message to Left Rev Steven Croft:
When you get paid to spew propaganda, it makes you a whore not a reverend. How much are you getting paid man-whore?
As is yours.
Global perspective?
Might "surrender" be a better descriptive?
And who is going to tell us what Jesus would do?
~~~
I’ll volunteer...
What would Jesus do?
He’d be born of a virgin
Be the only Son of God in the flesh
Fulfill 1000 year old prophecies as the Messiah.
Heal the sick
Turn water into winen re-attach ears and many other miracles
Cast out demons
Give hope, rest and peace to the hopeless, the weary and fearful
Give comfort to the lost
Forgive sinners
Publicly call out the religious hypocrites
Speak words of wisdom the world had not heard before, or since
Raise the dead
Live a sinless life
Raise Himself from the dead
Pay the full price for sins of anyone who would accept His gift of eternal life.
... did I miss anything?
“The COA is was captured by the father of lies years ago.”
Yes, on or around November 3, 1534.
The first risen from the dead and seated at the right hand of the Father. Amen.
Amen
These Church of England asswads have compassion for EVERYONE EXCEPT the English People.
Tell him to bugger off and perform a gay "wedding" instead.
“EVERYONE EXCEPT the English People”
Glad you said that, it’s very much needed. What we are seeing here is weaponized compassion, and it’s very intentional.
There’s a local minister here who implores her congregation to “serve the migrants” while failing to mention the church has an NGO that raked in $35 million in federal grants for “migrant services” during the Biden years.
They get millions but want the parishioners to volunteer.
Now their gravy train has come to an end with Trump.
Thank goodness for the First Amendment.
and He shall come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom shall have no end.
millstones
Yep. That’s the catch. They have so much compassion for everyone except the people around them.
