Trump ratchets up ‘blue slip’ battle with Grassley
The Hill ^ | 08/25/25 6:01 PM ET | by Al Weaver and Alex Gangitano

Trump is growing increasingly upset that some of his choices for judicial posts remain stalled and on Monday vowed to take legal action against the longtime Senate custom, which allows senators to block district court judge and U.S. attorney nominees from their home states.

And the president has increasingly trained his fire on Grassley, who is tasked with shepherding Trump’s judicial picks through the Senate and has steadfastly stood behind the practice.

Trump’s latest salvo grated on GOP senators who were already frustrated with the president’s attacks on Grassley, the longest-serving senator of the current Congress who has been a stalwart in the GOP conference for decades. Many believe the barbs are unwarranted and that Trump is making a strategic error.

“Why you’re picking a fight you can’t win is really beyond most of our comprehension,” one Senate Republican told The Hill.

“It also doesn’t make sense in the face of other members who have said regardless of what the chair may do that I would uphold the blue slip policy for the remainder of this Congress,” the Senate GOP member continued. “It makes no sense picking a fight that the president has no way of winning. Period. Full stop.”

Trump’s initial comments came on Sunday night when he declared that his “Constitutional Right” to appoint judges and U.S. attorneys “has been completely taken away from me.”

Grassley is another Dinosaur from a bygone era of ethanol hucksters and McRomBush Horseshiite.

Guess what? The old food pyramid is a scam. Phony crap from postwar overproduction issues. Just like the shiiitey oils they’ve been pushing.

Carbs are killing people.
Go true Vegan and feed the oats to the phoookin 4 legged beasties, and then eat the red meat.

Clean Meat.
Clean Veg.
Butter. Olive Oil.
Like people have eaten since the beginning.

even though the Democrats, including Crooked Joe Biden (Twice!), have done so on numerous occasions,”

President Trump will remember that when you need something for your state.

Biden/Schumer got EVERYTHING they wanted. President Trump couldn’t get a Diet Coke if he asked.

This isn’t about Grassley. It’s about the rules.

It’s really about separation of powers.

But President Trump can and should use the bully pulpit to change use of blue slips, if he thinks that a battle he can win.

We shall see.

The blue slip thing may make some level of sense in more normal times if used sparingly, but the Dems blanket rejection of Trump nominees in NY is ridiculous.

Its funny how republicans only believe in the blue slip policy when there is a democrat president, or Donald Trump.

“My personal view is that the blue slip, with regard to circuit court appointments, ought to simply be a notification of how you’re going to vote, not the opportunity to blackball,” then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in a 2017 interview with The New York Times.

He gets to nominate whoever he wishes - the Senate decides if they will be confirmed and how to go about that process. There is no “constitutional right” for the President to do that. So no, he’s not right...however any certain Senator’s objections to the nominees may be.

Many Dem judges have been blocked by the GOP using this same policy. Red states would be overrun with Leftist judges appointed by Obama and Biden otherwise affecting culture and policy for all of this time. On the other hand, this policy is why there are liberal judges appointed previously by Republican presidents in this districts because they would pick judges acceptable to the Senators in order to fill vacancies.

The blue slip policy has been around before Charles Grassley was even born, let alone his time in the Senate. If you aren't aware, both of those things are a *very* long time. So it is hardly a policy of "dirt bag Republicans" to go after Trump.

Guarantee Chuckie Schumer will eliminated this practice once it becomes political inconvenient for the democrats

He didn't before and this prevented many far-left judges from being appointed to affect culture and policy in Red states by both Presidents Biden and Obama.

Republicans already scaled back the use of this policy...which of course Schumer was able to use against us under Biden's term.

Grassley rips up 'blue slip' for a pair of Trump court picks

The blue slip policy is nothing but corruption. The Senator from that state can demand a bribe to not blue slip someone.... OR they can withhold advice and consent for a corrupt political reason. And it came about in 1917... a very dark progressive era of the Senate.

So you literally post a quote from Mitch McConnell blasting the Democrats for obstructing Trump nominees as evidence of Republicans wanting to obstruct Trump nominees? Do you not recall Donald Trump was President in 2017 and what that quote is referencing?

Ridiculous.
