Flying the St George's cross has been a topic of hot debate this week with many left wondering what the law says on flying flags from your home.
What many people don't know is that there are certain criteria which must be met to fly a flag from your house without consent, according to the government website.
Now the rules have been clarified as many residents across North Staffordshire have been erecting flags over the last few days.
On the 'Flying flags: a plain English guide' page, the government makes it clear flags are "a very British way of expressing joy and pride – they are emotive symbols which can boost local and national identities, strengthen community cohesion and mark civic pride."
The officials add: "The government wants to see more flags flown, particularly the Union Flag, the flag of the United Kingdom. It is a symbol of national unity and pride. The government has recently issued guidance encouraging the flying of the Union Flag on all UK government buildings throughout the year, alongside other national and local flags."
According to the page, the government have "made it easier" for the Union Flag to be flown "alongside other flags" so "organisations can highlight their local identities, as well as their national identities, and celebrate special days or events which champion civic pride."

How many times do they have to say “The Government”?
The government is wise, all powerful and benevolent until you do something it thinks is unsafe, hateful or wrong. Then they are a monster.
Big government is like Big Brother, and he is always watching you.
I’m thinking a little “There go the people. I must follow them, for I am their leader” action going on here.
Wow that’s generous of them. They are going to “allow” British citizens to fly the flag of their country at their homes.
The Government = Unelected leftwing bureaucrats answerable to no one
“ What many people don’t know is that there are certain criteria which must be met to fly a flag from your house without consent, according to the government website.”
Wow.
So glad my ancestors left that crap show in 1701.
The left wants to bring similar control here.
They want government having that control over us .
Utterly anti American
Otherwise, as far as I can see, either they have to say goodbye to their homeland and their identity, or lots and lots and lots of death and suffering will have to come before a victor is established (if they haven't already).
The British flag could “cause offense”. Maybe the government could check itself into jail like Otis from the Andy Griffith Show.
That movie is so ironic at that point. Of course, leftists had to portray Christianity as the culprit, where the complete opposite would, of course, be the case. Leftists and Muslims imposing tyranny.
Wankers. I wonder if Orwell knew that he was writing the future of his own country when he wrote “1984”.
Wow, y’all have to have permission to fly a flag???
Can I remind you of the great success against such overreach we had in 1776?
It's a Police State, Jim.
The key difference between the USA and the UK is we’re armed; they’re not.
The Brits sit around moaning, whining , complaining, hoping someone(us) will ‘’save’ them.
Never occurs to them to take matters into their own hands.
Still one of my favorite movies. And basically predicted Covid also.
what is the government’s position on
starmer is a wanker
do you need permission for that?
is it on their website?
