Trump's federal staff purge will result in unprecedented amount of exits by the end of the year says chief personnel officer

Donald Trump's White House will purge around 300,000 federal workers this year as part of his ambitious bid to streamline the civil service.

The massive cull represents a 12.5 percent cut to the workforce, which Trump has complained is bloated and inefficient.

Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor said 80 percent of those workers would leave voluntarily and only 20 percent would be fired.

The figure is almost double the amount of workers reported to have taken buyouts last month.

Upon taking office in January, President Donald Trump launched a massive campaign to downsize the 2.4-million strong federal civilian workforce.

The Trump administration started sending emails to thousands of federal workers in January, offering them a chance to voluntarily vacate their government posts while remaining on the payroll for months.

'I cannot force people to lay people off,' Kupor said in an interview in Washington on Thursday.

He said he would have to persuade cabinet secretaries to buy into his vision of government efficiency.

The comments contrast with the first few months of Trump's second term, when OPM leadership explicitly directed agencies to dismiss employees new to their roles, according to a court filing.

Right?!

“Donald Trump’s White House will purge around 300,000 federal workers this year as part of his ambitious bid to streamline the civil service.

The massive cull represents a 12.5 percent cut to the workforce, which Trump has complained is bloated and inefficient.”

Stop already! President Trump had my vote for greatest president in my lifetime months ago!

I did too.
Abolish the “Education” Department, the Legal Services Corporation, the commerce department, USAID, all foreign aid,
get all illegal aliens off of welfare, medicaid, medicare, and social security, reduce all other federal agencies of “non-essential service employees,” and other agencies by 50%. Stop base line budgeting and balance the budget. Why is that so hard?

Still below Clinton’s administration but no DemonRat will bring that up. From grok:

Using the more conservative estimate:

Reduction: ~377,000 employees
Starting workforce: ~2,188,647 (civilian executive branch, excluding Postal Service)
Percentage: (377,000 ÷ 2,188,647) × 100 ≈ 17.2%

Using the broader estimate:

Reduction: ~400,000 employees
Starting workforce: ~3,083,000
Percentage: (400,000 ÷ 3,083,000) × 100 ≈ 13.0%

Funny thing is that President Trump would never have done this if the Deep State had not made the decision to declare war on him.

The title is not accurate, as 300,000 fed employees is not unprecedented.

Clinton got rid of 359,300 jobs.

I think everyone working there should be no younger than age 60. It’s not a career. What would they do? AI just may settle it.

This is a story? Trump’s getting rid of people will result in people being gotten rid of.

The government never gets a RIF (Reduction In Forces) correct. I've witnessed them first hand.

The more talented will depart and the slugs will stay. The cuts will be too deep and then there will be a mad scramble to bridge the gaps.

HQ AF Personnel Center, in peacetime, had freeze codes on airmen in certain specialties that had been cut too deep. The freeze codes precluded these airmen from certain assignments. As expected, it led to a downward spiral where those who were frozen in place separated from the military at their very next opportunity.

Why is that so hard?

Because it involves the cooperation of other human beings.
