This has me confused..

There were people living in what became the District was established. MD & VA donated land to the Federal government for the capital. VA’s land was given back to VA. All of the land occupied by the District today was given by MD.

The fatal flaw with giving back to MD the land not occupied by federal buildings is the 23rd Amendment which awards 3 EVs to the residents of the District. Unless repealed, it might well give the First Family 3 EVs in a Presidential election. No problem if the First Family is democrat, but if Republican, dear God the wailing and gnashing of teeth that would ensue.

And there’s the fact that, apparently MD wants no part of DC’s population.

On the bright side, the 23rd might well be an insurmountable problem with making the District a state.

The whole point of the District in the first place was to have no state having jurisdiction over the Capital. Imagine a hostile MD government able to arrest Federal officials as soon as they set foot out of their offices. Think they wouldn’t? Look how NY and GA treated President Trump.

Actually, the $37MM sale was of the place where the Obamas vacationed during his Presidency.

https://www.realtor.com/news/unique-homes/barack-michelle-obama-marthas-vineyard-home-sale-les-wexner/

“In 2019, the couple opted to invest in their own home in the area, snapping up an $11.65 million dwelling that they still own to this day.”

Thus they still own the place where the chef died.

To hell with the 22nd Amendment!

This might be coincidence, but I'm finding more and more people recently in my state who would be 100% on board with the 22nd being repealed.

Personally, I don't understand why so many people, both online and off-line, regard the 22nd as inviolate and set-in-stone. They act as if they've never even heard the word "repeal" before. If you tell them that Prohibition (18th Amendment), which was regarded as being "forever", was repealed by the 21st Amendment, they'd likely call you crazy or a liar, even if you sent them links as proof.

I'm wondering if most of those folks just don't WANT to get out of their "comfort zone". "But, but, but, things are DIFFEENT now!" "The Dems would never vote for it!" "Not enough states would vote in favor!" "It just isn't going to happen, and that's what!" IMHO, that mindset is just a bunch of bovine excrement.

Key up the Woodie Guthrie songs about the Great Depression, weeping, wailing, gnashing of teeth, clutching of pearls.

I like the Guthrie songs, though, even if they’re not really relevant to telling homeless people to get off the streets.

So here’s my favorite for the pictures.

Even George Washington bought a couple lots in the district (prior to the government's move to there). Legend has it that Robert Morris, the financier of the Revolution, went broke speculating in DC property. (I can't say for sure, but it's likely).

Here for Washington's letter to Sec State Jefferson about the disposition of land in the District:
The terms entered into by me on the part of the United States, with the landholders of Georgetown and Carrollsburg are, all land from Rock Creek along the river to the Eastern Branch, and so upwards to or above the Ferry, including a breadth of about one and one-half miles, the whole containing from three to five thousand acres, is ceded to the Public on condition, that, when the whole shall be surveyed and laid off as a city (which Major L’ Enfant is not directed to do), the present proprietors shall retain every other lot, and for such part of the land as may be taken for public use, for squares, walks, and so forth, they shall be allowed at the rate of twenty-five pounds per acre, the public having the right to reserve such parts of the wood on the land as may be thought necessary to be preserved for ornament, the landholders to have the use and profits of all the grounds until the city is laid off into lots and sale is made of those lots, which, by this agreement, becomes public property. Nothing is to be allowed for the ground which may be occupied as streets or alleys.

Take the area’s that don’t house federal buildings and give it back to the state that originally donated it.

As long as you also dismantle the buildings that are part of the unconstitutional portion of the federal gov't, that would be a nice start to the recovery of our Free Constitutional Republic.

"But this offends the sensibilities of Bowser. So we can expect a lot of back and forth in the media,,and by public officials such as her, about just how bad is crime in the District of Columbia. Is it really as bad as Trump claims etc. And someone will call Trump a racist etc."

TrumpII holds all the cards over Mmmmurl. Time to not just call her bluff, but make her the target of a Federal criminal referral.

Pelosi and Mmmmurl Bowser had a face-to-face conversation, that the pre-J6 offer of "10,000 National Guard" that was directly offered to Pelosi -- to supplement her control over the USCP -- was thoroughly discussed at this meeting; and that Pelosi made Bowser 'see it her way' that NO National Guard deployment would ever take place because, as Pelosi stated verbatim, that the National Guard were "outside of my control".

Bowser was under pressure from The White House and even Pelosi's USCP Chief Steven Sund to accept outside law enforcement, not just presence, but troops.

That resulted in the Mmmmurl Bowser letter to TrumpI that inexplicably rejected any additional security -- as it turned out, the rejection of additional security was explicitly at Pelosi's direction.

Further proof of Pelosi's depraved criminal mindset as she attempted to take down Trump: Pelosi was more than happy to sacrifice over 30 career USCP to their own J6 charges, after she had the alphabets compile profiles that showed a bare majority of USCP were pro-President Trump, so she made sure that all the pro-Trump cadre had duty call on J6.

Then immediately following J6, Pelosi forced USCP Chief Sund to resign or be fired.

If that wasn't enough, Pelosi then forced out Sund's brief interim successor Yoganda Banana because she knew too much; and to accomplish this, Pelosi fomented a 'no-confidence' union vote among her remaining loyal USCP!

30+ USCP officers are even now, just waiting for an offer of Congressional immunity to testify against Pelosi.
