Nancy Mace’s governor bid tees up volatile primary

Rep. Nancy Mace’s (R-S.C.) entrance into South Carolina’s GOP gubernatorial primary is setting the stage for a tumultuous intraparty battle as five Republicans vie for the state’s top executive post.

Early polling shows Mace and the state’s Attorney General Alan Wilson (R) leading the primary pack, with Mace calling the primary a two-way race between her and Wilson. The two officials already have a contentious history. Earlier this year the congresswoman accused four men of sexual misconduct in a speech on the House floor and accused the state attorney general of not prosecuting the men.

However, other contenders, including Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette (R) and Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), could also have an impact on the race.

“When it comes to our politics, it truly is really cut-throat,” said Alex Stroman, former South Carolina GOP executive director.

A South Carolina Policy Council poll released late last month showed Mace leading the crowded field with 16 percent of voters who said they identified as Republicans while Wilson closely trailed at 15 percent.

Democrats vote in Republican primaries too, in South Carolina (as every thread about Lindsey Graham never fails to mention).

I’d prefer Norman and Mace stay in Congress, along with Tim Burchett in Tennessee who is futilely running for Governor there against massively likely primary winner Marsha Blackburn.

Nancy Mace is great at her role. She does not have the temperament to become Governor (probably due to her past — she was the first female cadet at Citadel).

Her more distant past was not encouraging, back when she was the self-appointed spokeswoman for the RINO contingent.

But her more recent past (2024+) is a lot more righteous, conservatively speaking, and I like what she does in Congress.

It is incomprehensible that Republicans do not create and pay for their own Primary Elections.

Instead, in state after state, the GOP takes a knee, and begs the Democratic Party, and state government, to set the rules.

The first step is to have voter registration by party, which roughly half of the states do not. Without that, there cannot be “closed” primaries.

And even when there is registration by party, and primary participation is limited to party members, Democrats can still switch (temporarily) to infiltrate GOP primaries. Of course we could do the same, but it’s funny how that sort of thing seems to go one way only for the most part.

But if there is to be *any* chance at purity, there has to be party-level registration.

Agree. I actually donated to her primary opponent in 2022 (Katie Arrington).

Now, I have been very impressed with how Mace is not backing down to the insufferable transsexual mafia. When she kept saying the words Tranny, Tranny, Tranny at that freak man who thinks he is a woman, it won her many new supporters.

But, she is indeed volatile. Not something you want at an executive position.

I disagree.

First Step - copy right the Republican Party name.

Second Step - organize, administer, and pay for our own Primary elections.

Third Step - sue any candidate who uses the Republican Party (or GOP) name, in the context of any election, who did not win the Republican Party Primary.

I supported Arrington too in '22. There is quite a difference between the old version of Nancy Mace and the 2024+ version:

It’s the same as souls to the polls. I can’t believe the megachurches don’t take advantage of this. We’d have tens of thousands of votes banked in every state if republicans did this.
