“The Sad, Pathetic End of Howard Stern”
Don’t know about the sad part... but Stern was always pathetic.
“Don’t know about the sad part... but Stern was always pathetic.”
That’s EXACTLY what I was getting ready to say.
Die a hero, or live long enough to be the villain.
In my personal opinion the math used to make sense (also in Colberts case too) until DOGE came along when Trump started his second term.
It’s about time moral, rational individuals got Serious.
I’ve been a subscriber for years. My primary channel is 125 the Patriot which is conservative talk. My presets are 70’s, the Beatles, Classic Vinyl Rock, Classic Cassette Rock, Soul Train, Fox News, and Classic country to modern country.
I enjoy not having to put up with stupid DJ shtick and all the commercials.
But to each, his own.
Well, you missed the point.
Stern showed that you could speak up, make jokes and engage in free speech. The FCC (mostly the Christian right) went after him for his edgy and sexually laced content.
But that is free speech. You need to accept the things you don't like. But many on our side are no different than the anti-Sydney Sweeney crowd.....zero tolerance except for THEIR thinking.
Stern supported many Republicans into office as NY/NJ were trending more and more blue. Then Stern got bit by the Hollywood bug, making his biography into a movie and wanting more roles and exposure.
He tried to change his image from the edgy, raunchy comments to a kind, supportive judge in America's Got Talent where we saw none of the Stern from the past, but someone that was controllable, managed and able to be packaged for general audiences.
On air, Stern towed the Democratic line more and more. For someone who had Trump on his show numerous times, talking about sexy women and Trump's exciting life, Stern turned against him and backed Hillary. When Hillary was on his show, it was boring. When Trump was on the air, it was edgy and exciting. Stern unknowingly helped Trump win by being unable to make Hillary likeable.
Stern went full TDS during Trump's first term.
Then Covid hit.
Stern's germphobia and OCD, which were once hilarious parts of the show, morphed into a giant, dark force of hysteria beyond anything most have seen. Some thought it was schtick, but Stern was serious. I think Stern still has not returned to the studio or anything public since Covid. He has been remote all this time, hiding in his mansion like Biden during the 2020 election.
Stern destroyed himself. The edgy, funny, sexually laced talk master that entertained motorists in bumper to bumper traffic, sold out, changed sides and allowed his own demons to consume him.
Stern gained popularity by distracting those in rush hour traffic from the current traffic jam. Then he became preachy, whiny and mentally ill over Covid.
I say good riddance, Howard. Unlike Rogan who slid from the left towards the center, gaining audience, Stern slid from the right towards the far left, losing audience.
You brought this upon yourself.
After a while you get old and no one notices you any longer. I recall the story of when Mickey Mantle was inshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
They got to town the night before, went to dinner, the lady at the restaurant asked if they had reservations, one guy in the party said, yes, we are here with Mickey Mantle which he said rather loudly for all to hear. No one reacted. The hostess looked at the reservations and said oh that’s fine, his name isn’t here but we have plenty of room.
I never listened to his show. Never. Not even once.
“Now that Sirius/XM is dumping this contract, will I see a decrease in my subscription rate?”
Every time my subscription comes up for renewal, I call to cancel and go through the usual multiple people to get me to stay. When they finally ask me what they can do to make me stay, I tell them keep me at my original $4 a month rate...and they knuckle under. There will come a time when they won’t do it, then it’ll be permanent cancellation for me.
I heard his time slot will just be dead air for a while - I bet the audience goes up....
Read the article, Stern’s career is not ending naturally or ageing out to retirement, he failed, he is leaving as a complete failure, an embarrassment based on bad judgement that drove his audience away, he didn’t die naturally he made a path decision and it ended his career.
Money is great but to a lifetime entertainer and ego, it isn’t everything, Stern failed and has been rejected, he has wealth but he is no longer “Howard Stern”, that persona is slinking off, his act and leading role mocked and on the idiot list, retiring as a reject, a loser, thrown off the stage.
Super rich, but frequent ego slap down reminders will be a constant nag, his career ended pathetically and impotently, he went out as a 90 pound weakling, having blown it all.
They were paying for Trump hatred. Stern was campaigning for the democrat party. Trump won. He’s done.
Thanks for the update. I totally lost touch with what had happened with him. Yes, I enjoyed the edgy stuff from when he started out and I support free speech. I didn’t realize that he had supported Republicans. I agree with you, he brought it on himself.
Heh. Sirius kept begging me to subscribe, going as low as $4 a month. Of course when the ‘trail’ ended it was popping up to almost $20 a month.
After laughing about them trying to pull me in, I told them “I don’t pay for radio. And you say you don’t air commercials. But you run a promo between every other song, so how is that different than any other radio station?
They had a Sinatra channel that rarely played Sinatra, classic rock channels that played the same tired 500 songs, and Howard Stern. I’m going to keep listening to my own 15 gigabyte collection.
Who can/wants to listen to a 71 year old talking about ti$# and a$$ for hours!
Stern should roast in hell for what he did to Dana Plato.
Rush’s model was better. It cost nothing to listen to radio. Sirius is up to over $200/year.
Kind of amazing that Stern and Colbert can’t speak without in excess of 100 people telling them what to say and how to say it. Then there was just Rush!
