According to BBC News Russian and the Mediazona news website, out of 121,507 Russian soldiers and contractors whose deaths they had documented by 29 July 2025, 4.5 percent (5,432) were officers, while 8.6 percent (10,391) were Motorized Rifle Troops and 3 percent (3,639) were members of the Russian Airborne Forces (VDV). In addition, 11 percent (13,356) of Russian soldiers whose deaths had been confirmed were people who were mobilized, while 14.8 percent (17,964) were convicts. The BBC further stated that

The actual toll is likely much higher than can be determined through open sources. Military experts we interviewed suggest that our analysis of Russian cemeteries, war memorials, and obituaries may account for between 45% and 65% of the real death toll.

Thus, the BBC stated that the actual death toll of Russian forces, counting only Russian servicemen and contractors (i.e. excluding DPR/LPR militia), was 174,518–251,080 by mid-June 2025.

Wagner PMC chief Yevgeny Prigozhin confirmed that his organization had lost over 20,000 troops killed by May 25, 2023. He went on to claim that overall, the Russian military had lost 120,000 dead in Ukraine by late June 2023. He accused the Ministry of Defence of systematically downplaying Russian losses.

Pro-Russia Putin Friendly sources. Even semi reliable estimates place the number at twice that amount.

I don’t need to provide any numbers or explanations.

It is obvious you are wrong because Russia had do many people voluntarily signing military contracts. If the death rate is what you say there is no way this would be happening.

Here is more on that subject.

And yet... You just explained yourself.

"...because Russia had do many people voluntarily signing military contracts."

You're a Putinista. Trying to downplay the number of deaths. Pro Russian propagandists put the number of deaths at 121,507. I'm sure you agree with that.

Russia has been immunizing themselves from the West for the last 15 years at least.

I’m not trying to downplay anything, and it’s a shame for you to stoop to name calling.

Simply put, what I am saying is objectively true, it is common sense. If Russia had such a high death toll, they would not be succeeding in getting so many people to voluntarily sign these military contracts. People would see with their own eyes that the risk was too high and simply refuse to sign up or extend. But we know they are not having this problem

So objectively the reality you are very sure of is not true.

You can throw a tantrum in result to name calling in response to me pointing this out, but it doesn’t change the reality.

At the very core of our argument is how many Russians have died in this war. You keep telling me I’m wrong and I keep asking for you to tell me a number. You refuse to do so.

I feel like I made my point well.

seeing most of the Russian military voluntarily sign contracts, many repeatedly, is very strong evidence that the high death is false. They would just refuse if it was close to reality. But these figures come from the Ukrainian side, or other propaganda outfits like the ISW

Meanwhile Ukraine is violently subduing people to throw them in vans for the trenches, tens of thousands of men are hiding and dreaming of escaping the country
