Santa Cruz Planned Parenthood to remain closed despite judge ruling to keep funding

A federal judge on Monday ruled Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide must continue to be reimbursed for Medicaid funding as the nation’s largest abortion provider fights President Donald Trump’s administration over efforts to defund the organization in his signature tax legislation.

Even with the announcement, the five Planned Parenthoods that announced they were permanently closing on Friday due to Trump's Medicaid funding cuts will remain closed.

Santa Cruz is one of five locations under Planned Parenthood Mar Monte that announced they were shutting down. The others are San Mateo, Gilroy, Madera and South San Francisco.

This means patients can no longer get access to various healthcare services such as birth control, STD testing and treatment, abortion, family medicine, and behavioral health at those five locations.

The five locations closed were selected based on a set of criteria.

The factors Planned Parenthood Mar Monte took into consideration included patient volume, the parking situation, and making sure there was a nearby Planned Parenthood center to refer patients to.

Patients in Santa Cruz are being referred to the Watsonville Planned Parenthood clinic.

The Planned Parenthood Federation of America is suing, arguing it is unconstitutional to “defund” Planned Parenthood by preventing patients’ ability to use Medicaid at their health centers.

In its lawsuit, Planned Parenthood had argued that it would be at risk of closing nearly 200 clinics in 24 states if they are cut off from Medicaid funds. They estimated this would result in more than 1 million patients losing care.

It is unclear if the clinics will be reopened in the future or if more Planned Parenthood locations are planning to close.

Yes, it was hiding in the ‘penumbra’ of the ‘right to privacy’ which is implied but not stated. What’s really odd is that the Founders, who included rights in the Constitution were fine with the laws against abortion.

Women can go to an actual doctor for female health care needs.

If not their PCP, there’s this specialty called obstetrics/gynecology, abbreviated as ob/gyn.

Once again, another Judge’s ruling that supersedes a SCOTUS ruling. Remove this political hack Judge, obviously not fit to be a Judge.

Lay the blame at John Roberts for being complicit.

John Roberts is a swarmy, squishy, douche, disguised as a Chief Justice.
