California, other states sue USDA over SNAP data demand
KTLA ^ | 07/28/2025 | Iman Palm

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, comes as part of a multi-state effort led by Bonta and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

It argues that the USDA’s directive, requiring states to turn over names, Social Security numbers, addresses, and other private information dating back five years, violates federal privacy laws and exceeds the agency’s authority.

The USDA has warned it may withhold administrative funding from states that don’t comply. For California, that could mean losing roughly $1 billion annually, which is used to run the program.

Any delay or disruption in that funding, Bonta warned, would jeopardize critical food access for the more than five million Californians who rely on SNAP.

Five million recipients suggests to me that there is plenty of room for fraud.

Demanding data for SNAP Is an invasion of privacy, but demanding a vaccine card is perfectly fine.

Yes, and let's not forget 'Contact Tracing' and the phone app automatically uploaded to users' phones without permission.

Depending on how the program rules are written, they are in fact required to collect this information as part of determining program eligibility.

And their dirty secret is that they are completely out of compliance with the program rules and have been since the Obama years. California has probably failed to comply with eligibility rules since Clinton.

The fraud is huge and all they need to do is:

1) Obtain all social security numbers from all government welfare systems in every state.
2) Look for duplicates.
3) Find out why benefits are paid to the same SS# in more than one state.

Very obvious that they don’t want you to know where the money goes.

Do they ask you during the original sign-up about your legal status and length of residency?
