From JFK I flew to Tokyo and as I got off the plane I followed the connecting flights sign which put me right in the terminal with no security processing. That was pleasant.
This is wonderful. Having a tight window to get through customs and immigration, collect the bags, go through security and then run like a greyhound to your connecting gate has been the bete noir of my life.
I actually have anxiety attacks in airports like Philadelphia and Boston.
This new policy really depends on the security employed at the airport of original flight. I suspect it might not be such a good idea for some third-world countries, e.g. the U.K.! 🫤
They’re letting people probe their own orifices themselves now?

US airports are the worst. Hopefully this stops the second screening for my overseas travel.
Newark.... the smelliest most disgusting turd in the cesspool of US airports.
Having travelled the third world, they are more organized and secure than US airports. Even Eritrean is better than any major US airport.
It makes sense… if they never leave the secured area at any airport, then they should be cleared the entire way thru. Once one leaves the secured area, is when screening needs to be conducted again.
I am curious tho, will the customs inspection take place after deboarding at the final leg/stop?
Yeah, LAX used to have disconnected entry to Tom Bradley, but now they’re all connected behind security. Big help.
Newark airport is disgusting. My APA 9Ball team has to fly out of there to go to Vegas next month. Don’t know why it’s not Philadelphia, which is a lot closer.
I’m sure those who travel internationally will welcome this news. As for the rest of us just trying to move about the country, a small gesture like relegating the ever-present big-boobed baby mommas with a power-trip ‘tude to duties besides direct traveler interaction would be a big improvement, IMO.
More and more US Customs and Border Protection screens you at your point of departure so there is not need to do the dance again when you land in the US just to make a connection.
But you are, right I would not approve if CBP was not doing pre-inspections and involved in security at the departure point.
A half century ago, I flew BA through Toronto because it was cheaper than transferring in New York. I cleared US customs in Toronto.
As for screening luggage, that’s done before the passenger gets their hands on it. Most folks just wheel their luggage out the door.
These days when we fly international, we go non-stop to our destination. But when we used to have to transfer on the east coast, it was always a hassle to get your luggage, clear customs with it, check it back in as you exited customs, and then have to go through TSA again. Because someone could have handed you a weapon in the few yards between the customs exit and the TSA entrance.
On the other hand, one time the Russians sent our suitcase to the Caribbean and it took Lufthansa a few days to get it to us. Delivered to the front door; I don’t know how it got through customs, but it didn’t need us holding its handle for it to do so.
“...Newark airport is disgusting...”
Newark was disgusting when I passed through there in 1974.

Last May we flew from Rome to Tampa via Charlotte.
After the bag check a dude told us to go right. Some lady body-blocked me telling me to go left.
At the ID check, just feet from the x-ray belt, the guy told me not to take off my shoes. As I approached the body scan, a guy at the x-ray belt told me to take off my shoes. As I was talking my shoes off, I told him the other guy said not to. As he was discussing with the other dude, the lady on the other side of the body scanner told me to put my shoes back on and come through.
My wife’s passport was rejected by system and she had to be manually cleared. Took another few minutes.
We only had 45 minutes from landing to gate closing as the plane was late.
Now we had only a few minutes to make the long walk to the next gate.
Turned out the plane was not at the gate and we left three hours later.
