Some people paid $100 just for parking at a Cold Play concert in Madison, WI a little while ago. This is nothing.
Makes sense.
Does it accrue penalties and interest if they don’t leave on time? Like when we don’t pay our taxes?
If it goes where it is supposed to go instead of to some boondoggle, it’s a help. But who’s watching?
Yes, probably a lot of countries will start imposing a fee on Americans. But a lot of EU countries are in the visa waiver group—if you arrive in one of those countries and then travel to a European country not on the list, will you have to pay? Border formalities have been greatly reduced, but maybe they would go through a train or bus and ask to see passports.
Someone who works within the system once told me that an evil-doer could arrive here, make plans, do the dreaded act and be long gone before that card hits anyone's desk.
“If you mean the white cards- totally useless.

So, how would a $250 deposit be a red flag?
“ It will likely cost more than the $250.00 to process those refunds.”
I don’t understand how Visa and MasterCard can make a refund instantaneously, and it will be recorded in a way that can be checked immediately. But somehow our government cannot tell who is in and out of our country, at least as far as those who come through customs. The government could do that if they want to.

Tax something you get less of it. The new tax will not raise near that much if anything.
Oh good I am glad it is just for those that need visas. My wife’s family is in Colorado, I don’t want to pay 250 times 6 people!!!!
I am hoping you are kidding? You don’t really want Canada to be the 51st state.
“That reads like a list of 1st World Countries— i.e., not the source of illegal aliens.”
That is why they don’t have to get visas!
More likely to monitor money than a slip of paper.
I saw something on my phone about how a number of countries will start charging Americans for some kind of visa (about $20) starting late 2026. But children and people over 70 will be exempt.
A lot of Eastern European countries are not listed—Albania, Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Russia and Ukraine.
“More likely to monitor money than a slip of paper.”
There is no slip of paper!
I was referring to the paper all visitors fill out on the plane !!!
