As more businesses go cashless, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) wants to make it illegal to refuse legal tender.
Fetterman, along with Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND), introduced the Payment Choice Act on Thursday. It would require businesses to accept cash without “It’s simple,” Fetterman said, “if you’re open for business in America, you should take U.S. dollar.”
Under the proposed legislation, businesses must either accept cash or provide a device that converts cash to a prepaid card so long as it does not charge a fee. Businesses could refuse payments made with $50 bills or larger.
Failure to comply would come with a $500 fine for a first offense and not more than $1,500 for subsequent offenses.
The bill earned the support of the National ATM Council, which represents the business interests of ATM owners.any strings attached.

The internet went down in Canada couple of years ago and you couldn’t buy anything unless you had cash , some businesses had to find those old credit card paper swipe machines to use credit cards ,LOL
He understands the issues that really aggravate Americans. I hate to pay a fee to use my card to pay for anything, especially a government bill for government services.
The girl from Yorkshire complains about the price of ice cream and the fact that the ice cream man takes cards only.
I guess it’s never been tested in court, but a legal theory holds that if a debt is owed, and an offer in cash is made, yet refused, then that debt is effectively extinguished.
“You owe me $500”
“OK, here’s $500”
“We don’t take cash”

Florida gubbmit is gonna say this is a purchase, not a debt owed. Going forward, not a retroactive debt?

My town got clobbered with a tornado in 2011. Cash was absolutely king around here for about 2 weeks. Cashless is evil government control.
I go cashless pretty much but i fully support this bill. Some people want or have to use cash and they should be allowed to do so
The globalists salivate over a cashless world, where Big Brother always knows how you spend your money. And, how to freeze your bank account if you’re not compliant with government dictates.
Use cash whenever possible.
> The seller determines what he will accept for payment. <
I reluctantly agree with you. It would be nice if there was one mode of payment that everyone, everywhere would agree on. But it’s a free country.
So if a seller wants to only accept, say, silver bullion as payment - I think that’s his right. Just put a sign in the front window clearly stating that.
Are you serious? It will be a 2,000 page bill with amnesty for all illegals sneaked in there.
I suppose you could always return the meal, all over the table.
seems like mom & pop places around here will discount for cash.
Otherwise, they add a fee to use the card to help cover some of their card fee cost.
None of the MLB ball parks I’ve gone to recently will take cash...it’s all cards.
Wait, you need to renew a CCW in Florida? We have constitutional carry for residents in good standing.
“It’s wafer thin.”
“Bugger off, I couldn’t eat another bloody bite.”
“The globalists salivate over a cashless world.”
The ignorant sheep cannot see past “It is so convenient and they give me points!” They are going to walk right into the shearing pen...
Considering the demographic that generally inhabits such games, not having a collection of cash in one such location might be understandable.
Wow, that’s awesome!
If CBDC comes to pass, we’re toast.
My former state senator took a position in the Trump Administration, is now the U.S. Treasurer (which is different from the Treasury Secretary).
Look for the name Brandon Beech on any crisp new bills you come across. Good guy.
It would be a quick way to become a bullionaire.
If you told me two and a half years ago that Fetterman and I would often agree on something, I would have thought you insane.
