More south Florida pearl clutching... Local media is really upset and suddenly the media cares about what a Catholic bishop says.

Just because there were “cuts” doesn’t mean that the cuts had to be made to any particular program.
“Miami-Dade school district ends citizenship classes for immigrants after federal cuts”
“After Federal Cuts” could say “After Miami Heat loss of Lebron James”. The cuts to the immigration program did occur after James went to Cleveland, so there you have it.

Good. We’d be better off teaching our own citizens about the constitution and such rather than foreigners who want to come here and get free stuff.

So The liberals have screwed over the people once again.

They are deliberately doing this to prevent Immigrants from becoming Americans in order to drive a wedge between them and Americans.

God I hate these people.

It would be feasible to charge the students for their class.

“For more than a decade...”

So just over ten years? Practically since the beginning of time! How dare the school end such a long-time program!

This is a crock. Citizenship classes my ***. Doesn’t help if they are being taught in their native language.

I just did a search on YOUTUBE with the request for online help to pass citizenship exam and there were a lot of them on line. Most were just providing the most common questions asked (with answers) along with preparing for the interview.

The taxpayers do not need to provide these classes, they are available for free on line.

What is the success rate for these classes? How many participated and how many became citizens?

Catholic Legal Services is not Catholic. Certainly not legal and performs no earthly duty for the salvation of the faithful. CLS can learn to piss up a rope.

I would like to know how many actually use that taxpayer funded information and actually became American citizens.

Or was it a waste of money.

Liena Perdomo immigrated from Cuba at 18 and enrolled in English reading and writing courses and a citizenship class at The English Center. . . . Perdomo, now 41, holds an engineering degree from Florida International University and runs a public adjuster firm. She credits her early education at The English Center for shaping her path. “People like me, we don’t know anything about this country when we come here — it teaches us a lot,” she said.

Every one of these "Trump cuts funding" stories include a sob story about some poor "migrant" whose hopes are dashed. I think its time that we start rating them. I give this one a "C". Its solid but not dramatic enough. Couldn't the reporter find a child who can't eat because of these cuts??? Come on, man!!

Gee, the article makes it sound like they were paid by the Catholic Church.

I am sure the church could come up with space for the classes (in their schools) and teachers who can teach the classes (from their depth of volunteers.)

I mean, how much could it really cost?

If they were being taught English language, American rules, laws, and culture, it was a good thing. The classes were probably teaching them to game the system, manipulate immigration court, and collect welfare so good riddance.

“”””. For more than a decade, Miami-Dade County Public Schools partnered with Catholic Legal Services,””””

And where did Catholic Legal Services get their money.

Would it be possible that CLS was feeding at the USAID or other Agency trough??????

The Catholic Church is always involved.

How about the schools just stick with the 3Rs. Our tax dollars at play again.

Hasn’t “catholic charities” purloined hundreds of millions each year from the taxpayers through their various programs assisting ILLEGAL alien invaders?

Yank their tax free status.

It isn’t how much is costs but how much they can make off holding it at the school and off church grounds. Follow the money.

If M-DCPS really thought these classes were important, they’d find the money to fund it, like they would if the LGBTQ+&@ whatever funding dried up...
