President Donald Trump said Monday the United States will send top-of-the-line weapons to NATO to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.
"We're going to make top-of-the-line weapons, and they'll be sent to NATO," Trump said. Trump also said NATO members, not American taxpayers, would cover the cost of the weapons.
Trump also said the U.S. will impose "very severe tariffs" on Russia in 50 days if there is no deal to stop the war in Ukraine.
Sitting side by side with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that he is disappointed in Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We’re going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don’t have a deal in 50 days," Trump said. He did not provide specifics on how the tariffs would be implemented.
“I use trade for a lot of things," he added. "But it's great for settling wars.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine and Russia met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Monday, as anticipation grew over a possible shift in the Trump administration’s policy on the three-year war.
Rutte also planned to hold talks with U.S. Defense Secretary Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as well as members of Congress.
Trump made quickly stopping the war one of his diplomatic priorities, and he has increasingly expressed frustration about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unbudging stance on U.S-led peace efforts.

Defense industry wins in the end new weapons will replace the ones destroyed by Russia when they get to Ukraine.
NATO giving US money Trump can sell that.
Are you doubting Trump?
Hopefully, this sets in stone. Nor more aid, if you want something from US, you either have to buy it, or pay us back.
$10 billion arms sales to start. Bad news for Putin.
And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that [stopping the Russia-Ukraine war] done in 24 hours”.

Credit to him for trying to do this, but he often creates big expectations. Another example: 90 tariff deals in 90 days. He is prone to superlatives and exaggerations. Its part of his style but it can give rise to credibility issues. Just saying.
If NATO pays, ... the factual history of NATO is not paying at all, or underpaying agreed amounts.
This same system still controls all weapons and money that goes to Ukraine.
Stop giving our shit away for free. No weapons to other countries unless they are paid for up front, and not before our own weapons inventory is filled for our own defense.
And RATS aren't?
Agree.
Bad news for the American People who will pay for that 10 billion out of their savings.
This is NOT what I voted for. It seems business as usual. Campaign promises not kept.
Non sequitur. Not about the RATS. Its about maintaining support by effectively managing expectations. Its a ‘say what you mean, and mean what you say’ thing. People respect that kind of honesty and commitment. Exaggerating gets you into trouble.
Putin supporters on FR in angst
Europe paying for the weapons and still people are having conniptions.
Thanks, Enterprise, we’ll just have to wait and see who has tariffs applied and on what they are applied.
NATO is paying for the weapons. Europe was asked to step up and it is doing just that.
As to "Ukraine Knife in the back of America", Karen get a grip
“while cleaning out Americans’ bank accounts!”
Keep up. Trump said NATO is paying us!
Show me ONE credible article, that proves "US Weapons have disappeared from Ukrainian hands"
