ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER
Powerline ^ | July 11,2025 | BY JOHN HINDERAKER

So the turbine was 15 miles out into the ocean, and it was so large–the length of a football field–that it littered the region, including Nantucket’s beaches, with debris.

The cause of the failed blade apparently was a manufacturing defect:

GE Vernova had previously cited a manufacturing deviation at its plant in Gaspé, Canada, as the cause of the blade failure. Vineyard Wind is now in the process of removing more than 60 defective blades which had already been installed at the wind farm that came from the Canadian plant.

The linked Nantucket Current article notes that the developer of the offshore wind project, Vineyard Wind, is not a party to the settlement agreement and “the Town has found Vineyard Wind wanting in terms of its leadership, accountability, transparency, and stewardship in the aftermath of the blade failure.” It seems to be a common experience that, when turbines fail or rogue blades cause damage, the developer of the project is nowhere to be found.

Such incidents are becoming rather common. Bill Glahn noted the case, just a few days ago, of a Maryland turbine blade that came loose and went flying across a highway, blocking traffic in both directions and sending one person to a hospital. Injuries could have been much worse:

“The cost of a wind turbine blade can range from $100,000 to $500,000, depending on the size and type of the turbine. For larger wind turbines, the price can even reach $2.6 to $4 million per blade”

Watch what happens when the subsidies dry up. Also, brace yourselves for even higher electricity prices.

If not for very large subsidies and tax abatements there would be no “green energy”. Wind turbines last about 20 years but do not recoup their cost until about 25 years. Make that make sense. Add to the fact that foreign energy companies often own and operate the installations and we see tax payers enriching a few land owners, a few employees, but mainly foreign companies at the expense of our grid. The worn out blades are stacked up because they cannot be recycled easily as of now. A huge, expensive mess. Solar and wind are feel good wasteful endeavors.

I don’t think that’s a good comparison.... nukes don’t have any ‘wind ain’t blowin’ and the ‘sun ain’t shinin’ constraints about it...

And causes harm, chops up birds, confuses whales, etc. Horrible. All because of Globull Warming now known as “climate change” since obviously the earth is not burning up.

There are a very few valid scenarios in which wind power can be useful. Those simply don’t involve saving the Earth by reducing carbon emissions.
