The MSM managed to convert that story from their attempts to sway the election through editing to make Kamala seem almost coherent into a Big Bad Trump is chilling honest reporters.

Paramount, CBS forced to pay eight-figures,
that could reach north of $30 million,
change editorial policy in settlement w/ Trump

Paramount Global and CBS agreed on Tuesday to pay President Donald Trump a sum that could reach north of $30 million to settle the president’s election interference lawsuit against the network.

Trump will receive $16 million upfront. This will cover legal fees, costs of the case, and contributions to his library or charitable causes, to be determined at Trump’s discretion.

There is an expectation that there will be another allocation in the mid-eight figures set aside for advertisements, public service announcements, or other similar transmissions, in support of conservative causes by the network, Fox News Digital has learned.

Sources close to the situation told Fox News Digital that CBS has agreed to update its editorial standards to install a mandatory new rule. Going forward, the network will promptly release full, unedited transcripts of future presidential candidates’ interviews. People involved in the settlement talks have referred to this as the “Trump Rule.”

Trump was seeking $20 billion in his lawsuit against CBS over its handling of a “60 Minutes” interview last year with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing the network of election interference leading up to the 2024 contest. CBS is not acknowledging any journalistic wrongdoing with the settlement.

Trump’s settlement with ABC seems to have had little effect on their bias. They’re still as in the tank as ever for the Democrats. Maybe they need another lawsuit.

It appears there is more money for various other things, so they are spinning the settlement.

That is probably pocket change to them. Make them suffer to the point that every single POS working there has to take a 75% pay cut.

Chump change. As long as so many of us are willing to pay them with our TV subscriptions for the privilege of being entertained by them, they won’t even miss it.

Except every six minutes, The View has to retract what they said at the advice of their lawyers. It’s become quite the running gag.

False headline (again).
The 16 million figure is just the down payment. The settlement will end up being in excess of double that.

It should have included a public apology.

I can’t keep track of the players on this. Sharri Redstone and David Ellison have been trying for years now to finalize the Paramount-Skydance sale/merger. Getting that done requires taking out any trash left over from the legacy messes in any of the operating divisions. I imagine the order came down to the flunkies at CBS and Paramount Global to settle this case by hook or crook, just do it at a price that doesn’t scupper the sale.

I doubt that the merits of the case had much to do with the settlement. I imagine Trump has an opinion on the merger, since he has opinions on myriad things, including many that are none of his business but into which he inserts himself anyhow. If Trump was willing to settle for relative chump change, my guess is that he wants the merger to go through. He may just be happy to see CBS News, a small cog in a much larger machine, get taken over yet again and turned into an even smaller cog in a much bigger machine.

What David Ellison plans to do with it, I have no idea. My guess would be that he wants to spin off and dump poorly performing units; for all I know, he’ll sell CBS News to CNN, which Warner Bros Discovery is dumping over in another silo.

The merits of the case had everything to do with the settlement.

So did the penalty if the merger fell through.

CBS News didn’t care about any of this and was happy to sabotage the merger.

"It should have included a public apology."

In the immortal words of Ketanji Brown Jackson, even "a Martian arriving here from another planet" would not believe a public apology from SeeBS?

Why would you demand an apology from people who don't mean it?

If Skydance has any sense, it'll fire the entire CBS News division after the merger goes through.
