Gas prices will go up substantially when California new gas tax kicks in. Newsom is trying to blame that increase on Trump.

I knew this was going to happen once the politicians started legalizing “recreational drugs.”

This just his first tax bill in redux. Everyone predicted his tax cuts would ruin the economy, drive wages down and everything else up. Of course none of it happened. It supercharged the economy and middle / low wages. Inflation stayed in check and people were quite happy with their lives.

A lie to cover up that CA will actually cause the prices to go up.

Electricity costs could go up by 30%...

Politicians use "weasel words" all the time. I can also say that electricity costs will go down by 30% because of the bill and Newsom has no evidence to prove me wrong. Proof positive that when he speaks, it's likely a lie and definitely a waste of oxygen.

rising electricity costs because it would limit subsidies for green energy

Who pays these subsidies?
We do!

i would rather pay for stuff I am getting, then sending taxes somewhere, and maybe some of it returning to me as subsidies.

“The state has dealt with power grid problems for years, with Newsom asking Californians to conserve electricity usage during peak hours to mitigate the outage risk in September 2022 amid a prolonged heat wave.”

That's a funny way of asking.

“Price Variations: During peak hours, prices can be significantly higher than off-peak hours, potentially doubling or tripling the cost.” (ChatGPT)

Information specifically about how much electricity California “gives away” for free or at a negative price each year isn’t precisely measured, but it’s related to the phenomenon of curtailment and negative electricity prices, particularly due to excess solar generation.
Curtailment refers to situations where California generates more renewable energy (primarily solar) than its grid or storage facilities can handle, especially during certain times of day. To prevent grid overload, this surplus electricity needs to be managed, and one way to do that is by exporting it.

None of this makes any sense to me. The article says ...

California’s push for green energy technology has caused it to produce more solar and wind power than it can use, requiring the state to build out battery storage facilities and pay neighboring states to take California’s excess electricity.

... and then goes on to say that Californians pay 140% more for energy that the rest of the company. It also says that California PAYS other states to take their excess renewable energy supplies.

This makes no sense whatsoever. How can you have too much energy to use while the price of that energy is more than twice the national average to consumers?

“This makes no sense whatsoever. How can you have too much energy to use while the price of that energy is more than twice the national average to consumers?”

The generation is not timewise matched to consumption.

California electricity supply often goes from surplus midday to shortage at night.

Neither the solar nor gas turbines are optimally utilized.

There is also the matter of the electric companies having to pay for massive fires such as Paradise and probably Altadena.

“one way to do that is by exporting it”

Another way is to recharge California EVs during peak solar hours.
