Fed Chair Jerome Powell accused of lying to Congress over $2.5B ‘Palace of Versailles’ HQ revamp

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is being accused of lying to Congress after he denied that a $2.5 billion revamp of the central bank’s Washington headquarters will load the facility with lavish amenities — and some are demanding that he be punished, The Post has learned.

Powell called The Post’s exclusive report in April about the bloated renovation project — which led Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) to liken it to the “Palace of Versailles” during a grilling by the Senate Banking Committee last week — “misleading and inaccurate.”

“There’s no VIP dining room, there’s no new marble. There are no special elevators,” Powell insisted under questioning from the powerful panel on Wednesday. “There are no new water features, there’s no beehives, and there’s no roof terrace gardens.” But Powell — who is meanwhile facing heat from President Trump over a failure to slash interest rates — directly contradicted the project’s own planning documents, which were signed off on by government pen pushers in 2021 — and which haven’t been revised since.

“The private dining rooms on Level 4 (of the Fed’s Eccles building) will be restored,” reads one excerpt from the filing with the National Capital Planning Commission. “The Governors’ private elevator will be extended to discharge at the dining suite level.”

The documents also expressly mention “vegetated roof terraces” that will welcome “urban wildlife and pollinators” as well as new marble and water features.

Andrew T. Levin — a professor of economics at Dartmouth College who served as an economist and advisor to the Fed’s board from 1992 to 2012 — urged Congress to step in and punish Powell for lying to lawmakers.

“A top Fed official cannot be permitted to make false statements under oath at a congressional hearing. Such statements must be promptly corrected, and in egregious cases, subject to censure by the Senate,” Levin said.

Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), a majority member of the Senate Banking Committee, told The Post that Powell “was clearly not prepared for his testimony, and should be embarrassed.”

“He made a number of factually inaccurate statements to the Committee regarding the Fed’s plush private dining room and elevator, skylights, water features, and roof terrace,” Lummis said in a statement to The Post. “This is typical of the mismanagement and ‘don’t bother me’ attitude that Chair Powell has always shown.”

To put this in perspective, the proposed building costs $1,000,000,000 more than Cowboy Stadium (at $1.5 billion).

“urban wildlife and pollinators”

You’ll find them doing street takeovers.

Lying to Congress is a crime. Offer him a deal. Resign or go to prison.

I’m hoping this puts enough of a target on Powell that he resigns.

I think POTUS can fire a Fed chair for crimes, and breaches of moral turpitude.

Why is this being paid for by us? Isn’t the Fed is an extension of the private banks. ?

Trump is moving on from the Big Beautiful Bill as it is all but certain for passing this week. Ol Jerome Powell will be tossed out by the end of summer. He is holding back the Trump wave. Causing the debt to multiply by larger interest rates.

Good question.

Further good question, why isn’t any given empty government office building in WDC suitable?

BILLION??? With a “B”?

Trump needs to step in on this nonsense. Give ‘em a couple of Costco tables in the corner of some fed building basement.

Good one!! As in the WWII era Brit expression-— “putting it about”, or ... “spattering the dew from the lily”.

Back when language was respectful and at the same time precise in discussing disgusting behaviour. It has all devolved in some part from “Blazing Saddles”-— “let me whip this thing out”.

Urban pollinators indeed. Why not just say— Bees and other pollinators which come into DC from rural VA and MD on long treks, so it is said.

Good one BenLurkin!

And people wonder why government is so expensive.

“Serious misconduct or cause.” Strictures for a President to be able to remove Fed Chairman. Not mere policy disagreements. One would think lying to Congress “cause.”

The Federal Reserve Bank IS a private bank— chartered by Congress. In 2013 Obamaumao the First signed off on the NEXT 100 year charter— in December 2013! This “Federal Reserve Bank” was so named to appeal to idiots in the US in 1913— as giving it the “ring” of “government” to the name. It was started in Jekyll Island, GA by private bankers (Warburg, J.P.Morgan his-self, Sen. Aldrich (the Rockefeller’s owned pet dog in the financial governance of the US Senate), and others). Private Pullman train cars pulled in secretly to Jekyll Island, GA.

After the first charter came... the Great Depression on the heels of a needless Pres. Wilson (D) World War I late entry, and prior to the rise of Franklin D. Roosevelt (criminal Socialist) who “recovered” the US from the Depression (which we were already coming out of, by FDR stealing ideas from Hoover, btw) by entering the US into WWII through the Japanese oil blockade backdoor- and Hitler’s declaration of war on the US. Germans... German Socialist bankers and Socialist FDR.

How about we get rid of the Federal Reserve Bank led by clowns like Powell, and before him Alan Greenspan. How about the US control its own Currency, by responsibility of the Congress, who has skated on this seesaw for over 100 years?
