MIAMI, Fla. - Florida officials say the controversial new immigration detention center known as "Alligator Alcatraz" is on track to open Tuesday, despite protests and a pending federal lawsuit aimed at stopping it.
What we know:
The facility is located at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, a remote airfield in the heart of the Everglades. It’s designed to house, process, and deport undocumented immigrants. Gov. Ron DeSantis says the state is preparing to begin intake operations on July 1.
President Donald Trump is expected to appear at the opening. The administration is touting the site as one of the most secure in the country.
"There will be some very dangerous criminal aliens that get processed through here," DeSantis told FOX News. "But if, for some reason, someone would be able to get out, where are you gonna go? You gonna dodge alligators for 50 miles to try to get to... no, it’s not gonna happen. So this is basically as secure as it gets."

Not a single protester was runned over for blocking the HWY..
Darn. I was hoping they would try to keep LEOs from moving illegals into a Florida state facility. Maybe stand in the road and block mine clearance vehicles brought in to clear the way?
Here’s hoping those losers get real jobs.
Keep those gators and snakes hungry.
Surprised they got it ready so quickly!
These are the same people that would scream like a stuck pig if animal control would not capture, contain, and euthanize rabid animals.

“But if, for some reason, someone would be able to get out, where are you gonna go?”
It reminds me of one of the GULAGS that the former Soviet Union had in the middle of eastern Siberia. It had no walls around the camp. That was because there was nothing in any direction for a thousand miles. If you left the camp you would die of exposure.
It’s not controversial at all. But I wish there were more protests. It’s more fun that way.
Who knows how many non-indigenous snakes like pythons and boas are loose in the glades that could eat a human. Not to mention cougars, bears, bees and poisonous spiders. Wild boars and air-boat swamp people wouldn’t be fun either.
10-4.
They’re prefab units.....all they really had to do was drop ‘em in place and hook up whatever plumbing and electrical.
What’s brilliant is this place was an airport at one time and these illegals can be flown in and out.
TENTS/AIR CONDITIONERS-(WHICH I DO NOT UNDERSTAND -—HOW DO YOU A/C AN OPEN SIDED TENT)-—PORTA POTTIES.
NOT HOLDING THEM THERE FOR LONG-———
HAS IT’S OWN AIR STRIP
BRILLIANT, IMO.
Emergency equipment, shelters, etc normally kept ready for hurricane response. Brilliant idea by DeSantis.
I hope they chum the moat regularly. Like feeding feral cats the gators will hang around. All you have to see a ten-footer pretending to be a log inna water and you will ensure that when you make your break at least ten guys are in front.
Also, that road leading in will be covered with gators every day. I worked at a plant in Southern Texas and they had to regularly screen the parking lot when there were shift changes. Gotta piccie of a 12 footer sprawled across one road.
I wish there were online cameras, grab some popcorn when the alarm sounds.
Has anyone said how long an average ‘to be deported’ would be there?
Are they talking like it could be months before flights out for an illegal there or would it be more along the lines of ‘ an illegal’ would fly in and their connecting flight out of the country is only hours away from when they arrived?
If anyone escapes, it’s “see you later, agitator”.
American ingenuity.
