“Awhile back I read the online biography of Bea Arthur, from the TV show ‘Golden Girls’”
The USNS Maude!
I like the USS Lee Marvin myself.

No, is a Navy superstition since its birth.
I know that, but it is a non-Christian belief.
He was definitely not a draft dodger. He was rejected from the military due to health reasons. He wasn’t happy about it, but was told he could do more for the war effort by staying home and making movies to entertain the troops.
Very well done, Mr. Secretary. I have been increasingly impressed with your decisions and leadership. I am convinced that you will turn our military from woke back to their original purpose.
Thank you. Although, I would think Peterson was more concerned with his Shipmates going down. Sailors are just like grunts; their loyalty is to the guy next to them in the foxhole. I could be wrong, but not in my experience of 11 years (75’- 86’)
I understand your sentiment, but my one gripe against the Duke was that he portrayed war heroes but never served. Other than that, his heart was in the right place, but ships’ names should first and foremost honor true heroes who proved themselves in real life.
That’s why an oiler was selected to get the name of Harvey Milk.
Bob Keeshan and Lee Marvin. Actors who were Marines.
He was a Reserve Marine but never saw combat.
Lee Marvin apparently did not fight at Iwo Jima and did not tell a story about Keeshan fighting in Iwo Jima (Keeshan always denied this story.) Lee Marvin was apparently wounded in the Battle of Saipan. (I am trusting Wikipedia here...)
(My Uncle did fight at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Palalau, and one coral Atoll whose name I forgot. I was told that I saw the first Captain Kangaroo.)
USS Crazy Horse
The other was The D.I. with Jack Webb. I sorta felt a kinship with Private Owens.
And this is a no crap, true story: I bought a used Dress Blue cover, and the name inside it was Owens. That it absolutely true.
