The Pentagon released stunning footage Thursday showcasing exactly how 30,000-pound heavy-duty bunker-buster bombs work such as the ones used against Iran’s nuclear sites demolished fortified targets deep underground.
The video showed a GBU-57 series MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) crashing into a target and kicking up a massive plume of dust moments before a blinding inferno appeared in a shaft during a test detonation.
Pilots who dropped the MOPs on Iran called the blast “the brightest explosion” they ever saw, saying, “it literally looked like daylight.”
“Unlike a normal surface bomb, you won’t see an impact crater because they’re designed to deeply bury and then function,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Dan Caine explained to reporters during a press briefing Thursday.

The NY Post sucks. I won’t even go there any longer. Double ads prior to the video, then interruptions during the video.
Hat tip to Barnes Wallis, who originated the idea in WWII.
Tallboy and Grand Slam were the result. A souped up Lancaster could barely fly with the latter.
Look him and them up, great story. Also the bouncing bombs to take out dams in the great dam busters raid.
I checked my jaw. It’s still there!
I never see ads there or on YouTube. I use UBlock.
But, you're still correct, NYP sucks.
Craters made by these bombs can still be seen on satellite image sites. The ones along the shoreline of Tirpitz's last anchorage are little ponds.
What’s being shared are videos of tests.....you know there’s footage of the actual bombs hitting in Iran.......but chances of that being released are slim and none.....and slim just left town.
Even Ayatollahs singing Rock The Casbah Rock The Casbah
Donald Trump called out his jet fighters
He said you’d better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down the Casbah way

Anyone else sensing a contradiction here?
Skip the endless commercials on nyp and go to youtube directly.

The bombs might have exploded 100 feet from the centrifuge hall.
I think they would have disabled the centrifuges, but I’ve seen no solid proof that they could.
Thanks
From what perspective was it the brightest? From a rear view looking at the light that comes up through the impact hole? Was that the brightest explosion they saw from that perspective?
Surface bobs create impact craters. Penetration bombs don’t
Oh wow, I’ll have to look that up!
I’ve overflown our underground nuclear test sites out West a couple times on flights to/from SoCal. The subsidence craters are impressive. Sobering when you realize what you’re looking at.
That footage was impressive.
No one else in the world could have done this and the USA has been able to fly around the world on missions since the 1950’s.
