It actually is a reduction if you count no tax on tips.
Then let them vote against it, and explain why they did.
I was proposing just a simple permanent extension now to get that issue off the table first.
No. Cutting spending outside of SS and Medicare means very little. You have to outgrow the debt, then you can tackle the tougher issues. Cutting taxes and regulation are easy. So is grandstanding about crap they know nothing about apparently. Most of what they are asking can’t even be done on a reconciliation.
The bill is awful because it fails to reduce the federal deficit and, inexplicably, worsens it.
If the bond market decides that there is too much risk in buying the bonds that enable the government to pay maturing bonds as they come due, the credit of the United States will go bust.
If the bond vigilantes fail to step up to the window, the Fed will likely buy our own bonds, fatally degrading the dollar, launching us into inflation and what has been described as a death spiral.
If the vigilantes require high interest rates to compensate for the apparent risk of $2 trillion a year deficits, increased interest rates might well make it impossible for the government to do much besides pay the interest on old debt. Thus, the Fed and, by extension we, are potentially on the horns of a dilemma for which there is no answer.
The bill is awful because it does not manage spending despite promising to cover the deficit in future years because other provisions of the bill will presumably grow the economy and produce increased government revenue.
Rather than contain the fire, this bill squirts gasoline on it.
I sort of agree, but the tax rate extension is also what other stuff (good and bad, hopefully more good than bad) is counting on to get through successfully.
I agree, but the tax cut extension (I called it tax cut extortion) is being used to allow all the other outrageous crap in the bill to be passed.
“The bill is awful because it fails to reduce the federal deficit and, inexplicably, worsens it.”
Only if you don’t believe in Reaganomics.
In your world, keeping tax rates the same adds to the deficit.
In your world, tax cuts add to the deficit.
In your world, reducing tax rates does not stimulate the economy.
“all the other outrageous crap in the bill to be passed.”
Please cite “all the other outrageous crap in the bill”.
You don't read good
Lots of Green New Scam funding, you can look it up as easy as I can. SALT quickly comes to mind also, to mention a couple.
“The bill is awful because it does not manage spending despite promising to cover the deficit in future years “
Duh, it is a reconciliation bill, not a budget bill.
“Lots of Green New Scam funding, you can look it up as easy as I can. “
You need to look it up? LOL!
Too much effort for you to look up, no problem. i understand..LOL.
Don’t misrepresent my posts.
“Too much effort for you to look up, no problem. i understand..LOL.”
Thanks for admitting you have no answer.
Would have to see the full list to weigh it out. It include border and wall, and defense. Those are important too. I have not read it.
The big beef seems to be not enough cuts and the debt ceiling. I could be wrong but I think this bill is authorization, not appropriations. I think appropriations will be where cuts can occur. Authorization doesnt force a department to spend.
Trump can legally spend less if he wants, and this bill gets him the win he needs for the mid terms. Appropriations and rescissions are what is necessary to codify the executive order cuts so a future admin cant increase spending again without congress.
The baseline budgeting process and omnibus continuing resolutions are what has this all messed up. We need to get back to actual budgets that constrain the executive rather than rely on having a fiscally responsible executive. That cant happen unless we win a few more seats in 2026.
JMHO
Nice try..lol
“Lots of Green New Scam funding, “
It is a reconciliation bill, not a budget bill. Elimination of that funding would require 60 votes in the senate. Not going to happen. But thanks for showing your ignorance.
That’s the response I expected, but you did use a few more syllables than I expected …lol…have a nice day!
