Just pass the no tax on tips portion of the bill separately, because it will get Dem votes...

Never forget...

7/9/2022 - ‘We Got Our Ass Kicked’: John Kennedy Laments Senate Republican Loss to Democrats on CHIPS, Reconciliation

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said on Thursday that Senate Republicans got tricked into passing a semiconductor bill after believing that a Democrat reconciliation bill was dead.

While Republicans were split on the merits of the legislation, most Republicans, including House Republican leadership, did not want to pass the CHIPS legislation if Democrats were to pursue a reconciliation bill to pass climate change, Obamacare, and other leftist priorities.

The same day that the Senate passed the CHIPS bill, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced a deal on the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill that would aim to reduce the deficit, raise taxes, and boost climate change and Obamacare spending.

Announcing the deal immediately after Senate Republicans backed the CHIPS bill left many GOP lawmakers with egg on their faces.

"We got our ass kicked. It’s just that simple. Looks to me like we got rinky-doo’d. That’s a Louisiana word for 'screwed.' And we got our ass kicked. That’s the way my people back home see it," Kennedy said...

Pelosi and Schumer always schemed to stall Republicans in the House and Senate in order to create debt ceiling crises because they know that Republicans are weak and disorganized. Perhaps they don't see how they are always being manipulated into wasting time over the summer in order to create a debt ceiling crisis that Democrats would then exploit in the Senate?

Even now, Rand Paul is set to vote NO on raising the debt ceiling now so that Republicans can take another contrived government shutdown "crisis" off the table as a Democrat opposition tool before the midterm election. Passing the increase in the debt ceiling now will push the risk of a government shutdowin into 2027 instead of giving the Democrats an unnecessary talking point to hammer the Republicans with in the summer of 2026.

How about this one?

Chuck Schumer brags to Senators about Mike Johnson giving Dems everything they wanted on Ukraine, foreign aid: report

Excerpt:

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer bragged on the Senate floor on Wednesday about how House Speaker Mike Johnson gave into Democratic demands in foreign aid packages.

Human Events' Jack Posobiec said he heard from a senior Republican official that Schumer "was just on the Senate floor bragging to other members about Speaker Johnson giving Democrats everything they wanted in the Ukraine and foreign aid packages."

And this?

Washington Examiner (December 18, 2012): Pelosi: I only supported Boehner’s ‘Plan B’ to ‘smoke out Republicans’

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi explained to Andrea Mitchell this afternoon that she only supported a millionaire tax earlier this year to “smoke out Republicans,” not to join forces with Speaker Boehner.

“I’m glad he is taking up some of my suggestions,” Pelosi said with a smile. “My next suggestion would be to put something on the table – as we were suggesting then to smoke out the Republicans – at what level would you raise the rates on the wealthiest people in our country?”

Earlier today, Boehner signaled support for a millionaires tax – a proposal that Pelosi supported in May.

It is absolute incompetence of Republicans to keep letting them get away with it.

Here's an oldie post of mine from 2009 on Harry Reid's history of reneging on promises:

Specter suggests Reid reneged on word.

Newly-turned Democrat Arlen Specter today hinted that that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reneged on his word to allow Specter to keep his seniority on committees on which he sits. "Sen. Reid assured me that I would keep my committee assignments, and that I would have the same seniority as if I had been elected as a Democrat in 1980," Specter said in a written statement today.

Reid Bows to Far Left as Rs Rank Judges Issue #1.

And they undoubtedly have the Rasmussen survey results in the back of their minds as they consider their reaction to Majority Leader Reid's broken promise to confirm three appeals court nominees before the Memorial Day recess, as well as Reid's sure-to-be-broken earlier promises to meet the historical average (17) for appeals court confirmations in a president's final two years. With just a couple of months left in the confirmation window, Reid is less than halfway to meeting that average.

[snip]

"A good GOP Senate source reports today that Minority Leader Mitch McConnell addressed the entire Republican Conference -- about the judge-fight issue. McConnell is said to have been very insistent that he would not let Majority Leader Reid's broken promise go unpunished. He would not tell the Conference exactly what action he was planning, but he did say it would be very firm, and that all concerned would know it when we see it." --Quin Hillyer (5/21/08)

[snip]

While Sen. Lott overcame numerous obstacles to get Paez and Berzon confirmed, Sen. Reid has looked for excuses to renege on his pledge.

[snip]

GOP senators are understandably angry that Sen. Reid broke the golden rule of senatorial honor by reneging on his commitment.

[snip]

Democrats Target Coburn's Holds

To ease passage of the public lands measure, Reid promised Coburn the chance to offer a limited number of amendments.

But after the majority leader objected to a Coburn proposal that would have eased restrictions on firearms in national parks, the package stalled for months, prompting Coburn to charge that Reid reneged on their agreement.

Coburn eventually got to offer four amendments -- all of which were defeated -- but not the guns measure.

Reid: No Vote On Lifting Drug Import Ban Before Health-Care Bill

Republicans accused U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., of reneging Tuesday on a pledge to allow a Senate vote on a measure lifting an import ban on pharmaceutical drugs before lawmakers take up health-care legislation.

The development, supported by major drug makers, comes as the Senate is moving to craft the politically delicate compromises needed for the broader health care overhaul bill.

In a letter to a bipartisan group of senators that have been pushing for the import ban to be scrapped, Reid said there wouldn't be time in the busy legislative calendar for full consideration of legislation lifting the long-standing prohibition now.

"He did commit to us and obviously that commitment is not going to be kept," Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., said Tuesday evening.

I say no more deferring until later; no more believing that Democrats will act in good faith later; no more Republicans giving up their momentum now on the belief that Democrat support will still be there later; no more Republicans who are afraid to use the power they have today.

The landscape keeps shifting... there is no reason to believe that the conditions on the ground today will be there six months from now. JUST DO IT!

Counting on the Democrats who have their backs against the wall today to still feel that way later is Fool's Gold. They have the political capital to act now, and then must spend that capital now. Doing it now will only make them stronger later, not the other way around.

the important thing is to expand the state via required reporting of everytime you move cash from your right pocket to the left pocket or buy your adult daughter an ice cream cone... or give your wife 200 to spend on whatever... after all it’s clearly a tip.

This nation is toast.
I weed your driveway, and you clip my toenails, there are implied tips there... I bill at 300 per hour, YOU bill at 255 per hour... so if we spend an hour each... that means that 555 has been issued in tips that will be reported.

no cash, just shoulda used an authorized transfer service like ZAE11E. the right to tax IS the right to KILL...

not like it.. it IS it.
I mean render unto caesar whatever is demande right?

—Puke.
The Brits taxed tea and we killed them by the thousands cutting them down like cord wood just to get them out of our wealth. Caesar is behind on his baby killing quota that typically uses our fed issued fake value printed fiat money right?

Okay, so stop taxing warehouse workers' income too.

In fact, stop taxing everyone's income.

Tillis is not a bright bulb.

Tillis, Johnson and Rand Paul are all nuts.

Liars too.

They only start yapping when we are in power. Keep quiet when the Dems are in charge and help them create the mess.

I’m tired of them and the sycophants that support them.

TIPS shouldn’t matter because no one earning less than $50,000 a year should be paying taxes nor filing returns. It costs more than is collected.

He complained that a waiter would qualify for the break but a warehouse worker would not, even if they had similar incomes.

Does this guy know what wait staff makes?

When I worked in restaurants there were times when wait staff would have paychecks for zero when accounting for deductions.

Tipped minimum wage only applies when tips are sufficient for the employee to at least make full minimum wage. Every hourly worker is making at least $7.25(?), tipped or not. If they aren't, they have a legal case against their employer.

But what regular deductions would possibly bring a paycheck down to zero? Most deductions are a percent of income, so they scale with pay.

WTF is wrong with Tillis? Service workers, waiters, etc make very minimum wages. Their earnings are mainly tips......thanks to the restaurant business model.

Industry workers generally make what the union has negotiated for them.

‘ Their earnings are mainly tips......thanks to the restaurant business model.’

Which is why it’s considered income.

Minimum wage was like $12/hr. then IIRC. Wed.-Sat. the wait staff were making big bucks. Like I wrote, 2 people usually had a $100 check, without wine and cocktails.. So I wasn’t unusual for 6 or 8 tops to run up big checks. They made good money.

You seem to be completely overlooking the fact that this money given as tips has ALREADY BEEN TAXED from the person giving it!!! WHY IN THE HELL should it be taxed again!!!

Why are you asking me? Answer the question yourself. If income is going to be taxed it should all be taxed equally. By your brilliant logic anything income is spent on should be tax free. Plumbers, electricians, doctors, lawyers, liquor, weed.

Or do you think tips are the only after tax expenditure that should be taxed? I earn sales commisions. If you buy something from me with your already taxed income should it be tax free to me?

Correction:
Or do you think tips are the only after tax expenditure that should NOT be taxed?
