Ya because the destroyed houses in malbiu and were built in the 40’s to 60’s, new requirements.
the staff members or the appointed commission members appointed by the gov.?
Yes. (Or in other words, BOTH.)
The *official* stated objective, as I said, isn’t much different. Per the CCC itself, it’s objective is “to protect, conserve, restore, and enhance the environment of the California coastline.”

It’s right there.
Actually, in some of the destroyed areas there were quite a few old-growth trees, though more so in the area destroyed by the Eaton Fire than the Palisades Fire.
Unfortunately, they burn only slightly less readily and enthusiastically than the native shrubs and bushes, which are some of the most flammable vegetation on earth and in many cases are the only kind you are allowed to plant there now.
Even without the Biblical justification, most of the present and former members of the commission are literally just “President-Of-The-HOA Karen” type petty tyrants writ large. They do all the same things, such as turning a blind eye to their friends’ infringements, while not just rabidly prosecuting others, but outright fabricating things to fine and prosecute for.
Look up Adam Carolla on Youtube. He talks with builders and a dirt lot can cost $2.4 million and UP!
Here is one of several.

The old saying applies to the Coastal Commission:
“Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
created by a ballot prop in 1972 as i remember, i voted against it. now all theses’ years later they believe they own the coast.
For all practical purposes, the state created a giant HOA that DOES now own the coast.
