I too had Muslims working for me that were great people. No kidding. These people were patriotic Americans.
BUT, the doctrinal (Koran), historical, power structure (The Imam, Madras, and Mufti, etc are left on the curbside in a more secular society), as well as values and views held by the majority of Muslims are not in sync with what these more open minded / free thinking Muslims believe.
In fact, many of these more open minded Muslims would be persecuted and seen as traitors by the majority of Muslims in places like Pakistan. They would see those working with the American military or as part of a multi-national force as apostates:
A Jordanian fighter pilot working as part of the coalition (You or I would likely just be beheaded and it would be quicker than for him): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbzsn8V_-yk&rco=1
Another example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdullah_II_of_Jordan If you look at his life (education, wife, hobbies etc) and the decisions he makes (liberalization of economy, etc), he's actually a pretty cool dude: https://www.alamy.com/king-abdullah-ll-of-jordan-riding-his-motorcycle-at-wadi-rum-while-image156958312.html Forgotten in time: https://newsletter.mathewingram.com/the-king-of-jordan-appeared-on-star-trek/
You have a dichotomy.
You have some in the Muslim world that want to progress, that are tolerant, understand and value certain ideas we share in the West, who are often educated in the West, speak multiple languages and world traveled.
But then you have a large enough percentage of backward, oppressive, morally repulsive, and usually ignorant individuals that are willing to pick up the sword to cause trouble.
Usually the ones causing trouble are so dumb that they frankly do not even really know their own religion all that well, nor do they understand the motivations of those using them as a tool and sending them off to die. Poverty, ignorance, combined with a religion that DOES have a history and scripture which supports many of these Islamist ideas creates fertile ground for a seemingly endless supply of idiots.
But, you need to look at the Muslim nations as well as their leaders and the average person individually. Yes, we need to use common sense and prioritize resources when it comes to threat mitigation. Yes we need to be cautious. BUT, don't alienate friends and allies by lumping all these people together. There are many good people, leaders, and what are more open minded and progressive nations among them.
They suppress and keep the truly crazies away from doing any more harm. Saudi Arabia speaks out against terrorism and is close to recognizing Israel.
They are far from perfect, but it’s much better than 30 years ago.
Yep. The biggest problem is that the borders are now open in the West.
If the borders are closed. It's quite possible that Islam may moderate on their own.
Some apologists argue that Islam's contribution to Europe is overstated include historians and scholars such as Bernard Lewis, who has critiqued the narrative surrounding the Islamic Golden Age and its influence on the European Renaissance. He suggests that while there were significant contributions from Islamic civilization, the extent of their impact on Europe has been exaggerated. Another notable figure is Steven Weinberg, a Nobel laureate in physics, who has pointed out that despite the historical achievements of Muslim scientists, contemporary contributions from Muslim-majority countries are minimal compared to those from the West. Additionally, some critics argue that the translation movement in medieval Islamic societies primarily served to preserve Greek knowledge rather than innovate or develop new scientific paradigms. This perspective emphasizes that while Arabic scholars played a role in transmitting knowledge, they did not significantly advance it in ways that would lead to a scientific revolution akin to what occurred in Europe.
The religion of peace.
yay
Incredible means not believable.
That’s because he’s socializing with the elite. Now take a person on the lowest level and ask about oppressive islam and sharia law and you’ll get a different perspective.
Two can play at that game.
Myopic.
Trump is Trump. Projecting our wishes for what he should be never ends well.
He’s socializing in English with the Arab elites.
The President is Diplomatic. The era of US policy regime change is over. War in the Mideast is not MAGA.
What else is he going to say? He’s in the Middle East trying to build bridges. And there’s a difference between trying to reach out to moderate elements in the region and getting into bed with terrorists.
As far as Syria is concerned, Trump is testing the waters. But I don’t for a minute think he will enter any agreements with them based in faith alone. He understands “trust but verify”.
Yup, that “culture” is incredible, all right. Let’s remember that the Trumpster exaggerates to please those he’s with. Let’s hope we have a Trump type in charge when the inevitable war with Islam happens.
He has to lay it on thick, while negotiating as a guest in their lair, or territory. Being impressed with the architecture does not signal some kind of conversion.
I have more faith in him as a practical businessman.
Agree/
“Incredible”. sounds great and could mean incredibly awful.
I actually visited a mosque in Turkey. Our English-speaking
guide told us a few things about the religion. Old men sitting on the floor chanting or whatever they do smiled as I walked by. No Turkish women there, just me. That was many years ago before Islamist Erdogan started wrecking the country.
Hearts and minds... He isn’t stupid.
Unlike some President Trump sees the bigger geo political picture. Strengthening our alliances in the area with Saudi Arabia and the surrounding region including Turkey and now Syria. I wonder what Iran and Russia are thinking.
And I forgot to add the trade war shot across the bow of China’s ship of state.
The architecture and colors are gorgeous. Not exactly MY style, but impressive for sure.
Just so he’s doesn’t go wobbly on the Islam “faith” like W did.
“Islam hates us.”
President Trump
