White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said a 10% baseline tariff will remain in place after a trade deal that was announced with the United Kingdom on Thursday.
"The president is committed to the 10% baseline tariff, not just for the United Kingdom, but for his trade negotiations with all other countries as well," Leavitt said at a Friday press briefing at the White House. "The president is determined to continue with that 10% baseline tariff. I just spoke to him about it earlier."
The agreement between the U.K. and the U.S. will open the British market to American beef, ethanol, and other agricultural products, the White House said. It will also allow British cars and steel better access to U.S. consumers, while the U.S. has agreed to cut tariffs on U.K. autos, steel, and aluminum in the deal with Britain
U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said the deal would protect thousands of auto jobs and stressed the importance of the relationship between the two countries.
The White House said the deal was “historic” and a “great deal for America.” The 10% universal tariff will be the floor in any trade negotiations, Trump has said.
The Trump administration said the agreement creates opportunities for $5 billion in new exports of U.S. agricultural and other goods, according to the administration's fact sheet.

Limey Knifeman Supporter Starmer, crawls away in shame.
10% is a small price to pay for access to the largest retail/wholesale markets in the world. Think of us as Uncle Sam’s Club.
RE: Baseline remains....
In baseball, if a batted ball hits a baseline and then goes into foul territory, it’s generally ruled a foul ball. However, if it bounces into fair territory before reaching the base line, then into foul territory, it’s considered fair.
Not sure how this applies but it sounds interesting.
I think the goal is that with the 10% tariffs and the other government savings that Trump plans on eliminating the income tax.
Actually that is a true statement.
Additionally, British manufacturers still have the option to build manufacturing facilities in the United States, employ American workers (skilled and unskilled), and pay Zero tariffs.
They can still win, if they put their mind to it.
I believe you are correct.
If that was the goal then he wouldn’t be negotiating away the baseline for favored items.
Not that Baseline, Frank.
Thanks for the update. Next I’ll look into the Infield No-Fly Rule.
My favorite baseball joke.
Told by my favorite player Kirk Gibson.
If a game is being played and the batted ball reaches a hole in the fence in the outfield in fair territory and goes through it, and is eaten by a hog in the field beyond the diamond, what is the official call on the play?
An inside the pork home run.
I heard that a Timeout is called until the Hog digs a hole and takes a dump, putting the ball back in play by emptying the Dugout.
LOL

“No matter how big the hog is, you’d better bring home the bacon.”
This was no secret. Trump mentioned this during the press conference several times. There are some areas where the 10% doesn’t apply but the US was compensated with a large airline jet purchase and other compensation. This reporter is acting like it is news, it’s not.
Didn't say it was a secret, said it was a WIN for America and Trump.

Nope, I think it was a great deal. I love Trump’s tariff strategy. China is about to collapse (riots in the streets and closing of factories) and we are going to get another bold trade agreement with them. Nations are begging to level the playing field. I think it is amazing what he is doing, not an anti-tariff guy in the least.
OK, your post sure sounded different.
